Free Will... the first guy is right.
An interesting thought is that the snake is never said to be the devil. That is a Christan idea that came after the New testament. Snakes symbolized knowledge back then so it's all about Eve accepting knowledge and free will.

Whatever, my best friend is a talking reasoning snake. I see them all of the time. They completely fit into my world view. Too bad for you that you don't know any. You're really missing out.
Although I suppose they have a little bit of a bad reputation now. But you know what they say, don't judge the many by the actions of the few.

The snake was the devil....but good question why a snake has to talk and convince Eve to eat the apple....and know we are not in paradise...we are in the middle of heaven and hell....
I believe that this a parable to talk of good and bad....because lately I haven´t see or hear a snake speaking...

It's true. I saw it on the Simpsons! Homer and Marge were Adam and Eve. Flanders was God. And Snake was the snake. The Bible and that episode went hand-in-hand. I shall now give up my evil ways and throw myself at the mercy of Flanders,...umm I mean God.

God DID see it coming, that's why He had a plan in place even BEFORE Adam and Eve fell.
At Genesis 3:15 "And I shall put enmity between you and the woman and between your seed and her seed. He will bruise you in the head and you will bruise him in the heel.
The Bruising in the Head refers to Revelations 20:10 and the Bruising in the Heel refers to Acts 3:15 & Php. 2:8.
So God knew way ahead of time, that since Adam & Eve had free will it was possible for them to fail and he set up Christs sacrifice JUST in case it was needed. Of course he HOPED they would make the right decision, but with free will . . .

No, it always comes down to questions like yours.
This very first downfall occurred simply because of the question:
WHAT IF......
That question is the beginning of the end and it doesnt have to be asked by a talking snake, it might as well be asked by some troll like you on yahoo answers :p

Well, isn't this the whole crux of the matter.
Now, God knows what will happen WHEN you make your choice. He leaves it up to you to make the decision. That is the free will portion.
A larger issue is that if God forgives all sins and all sinners, how come Adam and Eve got left on the hook for that?

It was a serpent (different from a snake) and it is a story about free will. I don't think that the Old Testament was meant to be taken literally. That's my personal belief.

God sees the end from the beginning, nothing that has ever happened or will ever happened has supprised God but he gave man a free will. Would you force your spouse to obey and love you or would you give her a choice? God gives us a choice.
What is your choice? For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever beleives in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
