Better you should ask how the Jews got so skattered. After Jesus left this earth, they just wondered off still waiting for their savior. The only ones who actually stayed in the Holy land, were the Gnostics, who were the followers of Jesus and the total enemy of the Church in Rome. According to the church in Rome, not to the Gnostic who in following Jesus built a church over his birth place.

Nations have nothing to do with countries. The nation-state is a resent development. A nation is a group of people who you identify with each other culturally.

In the United States we use the term nation incorrectly. We are not a nation, because we have people of many different nationalities.

And the German Nation for example is bigger than Germany, it includes Austria, parts of the Czech Republic, Luxemburg, and parts of Switzerland. That was actually one the causes of World War II.

That's most probably the best question on yahoo! because most Jews cant answer the question either. If you ask a Zionist he will say only those who live in Israel, If you ask a hassid he'll say only if your Hassidic, If you ask reform/conservative only if your quote "open minded". and so on and on. But I what I think is- if your an descendant of the Jewish patriarchs or your a convert AND you believe in god and you obey the bible (Old Testament) Your part of the Jewish people/nation. If not with what is that person Jewish?

Actuallly, the term Jew is relatively new.

The bible calls them Israelites, and yes, no matter where they are scattered, they are a single nation, and will be brought together again, as they were when they were enslaved by Egypt and when they were set free to start the journey to the promised land.

I would say so. There are myriad races, ethnicities, and locations of Jews, but I would say that we consider ourselves as part of one people.
