I agree, the Pekingese, pug and all the "squished-in face" dogs are all prone to respiratory health problems due to their breeding. I understand the bull dog bit_ch must always have a cesarean to give birth due to the size of the puppies head. I wonder before the days of good veterinary care, did the bit_ch just get cut open, pups taken and nursed by a surragate mother, and she would die?

Yes thats wrong but not all breeders breed just for size. A lot of thought goes into breeding including past health conditions of the parents and if the male is much bigger than the female because that could result in the female being pregnant with puppies that are too big for her. Sometimes a dog isnt bred just for size and ends up being unhealthy, it is just born like that because the traits of the breed. You just have to look for a responsible breeder.

Being a breeder, and trying to follow every ethical practice I can, I would *never* breed an unhealthy dog, no matter what size. I'm having one of my males neutered on Monday because he grew to be larger than the breed standard, though he's beautiful in every other way. It is simply unacceptable to my breeding program to breed outside of the standard.
There are breeders, however, who do take the other route. They purposely take smaller and smaller dogs and breed them together to get tinier and tinier puppies. They breed the tiny ones with little or no regard to other health concerns. You might have a tiny puppy, but never mind the heart problems, skeletal malformation, and the neurological defects! *That* is evil.
Toy dogs that fit their standards can be just as healthy as large dogs... The standard is there for a reason...

OP is asking if it's evil for breeders to "manufacturer" toy breeds like teacup Chihuahuas, which usually only weigh 1-2 pounds.
Personally, I don't think so.... as long as they end up in loving homes with owners who love them and take care of them. Now if there was a study that proved that they all die horrible deaths within 2-3 years then no I'd be against it.

Most little dogs live longer healthier lives. It's the big dogs that have health issues , like hip displacia, n stuff like that. My mom-in-law had a silky terrier that lived to be 14!

i agree that most dogs when breed will have a great chance of having a toy dog. it is not evil to have a toy dog as long as you give them a great life you cant change that they have been breed like that but you can make there life a great one.

Many dogs are meant to be of toy size...but it is evil to breed for diminutive size, without regard for over-all genetic health.
When you breed tinier than breed standard, to another dog tinier than breed standard, you are doubling up on the genetic problems that made them undersized (runts) in the first place.
then you are selling heartaches all wrapped up in puppy clothing.
