IN MY EXPERIENCES I HAVE HAD THAT SAME PROBLEM AND IF MY IDEA MAY NOT COMPLETELY CURE YOUR PROBLEM IT SURE WOULD NOT DO ANY DAMAGE. I NEVER HAD THE MONEY TO TAKE MY ANIMALS TO THE VET SO I DISCOVERED THAT HYDROGEN PEROXIDE CURED MANY INJURIES ON MY ANIMALS. THE PEROXIDE THAT YOU GET AT THE STORE FOR ABOUT A DOLLAR. YOU CAN JUST POUR IT ON THE CUT BUT AFTER A COUPLE OF TIMES THE CAT MAY RUN FROM YOU BECAUSE IT STINGS A LITTLE BUT THE PEROXIDE IS GETTING RID OF BACTERIA AND KILLING DEAD SKIN. SO I USED TO PUT THE PEROXIDE IN A SPRAY BOTTLE AND SNEAK UP ON HIM A FEW TIMES A DAY AND CURED HIM THAT WAY. EVEN ANIMALS THAT HAD FOOT INJURIES, I WOULD DIP THEIR WHOLE FOOT IN THE PEROXIDE A FEW TIMES A DAY AND SAVED THEM.
BUT ONLY APPLY THE PEROXIDE EVERY 8 HOURS, AT 8 HOUR INTERVALS. YOUR CAT MAY NOT STOP RE-OPENING THE CUT BUT AT LEAST WITH THE PEROXIDE HE WILL NOT GET AN INFECTION. I ONCE SAVED MY CATS WHOLE EAR WITH IT. HE HAD COME HOME WITH A BIG WHOLE ON HIS EAR FROM A CAT FIGHT. I THOUGHT IT WAS HOPELESS SINCE SO MUCH OF HIS EAR WAS MISSING BUT TRIED SPRAYING PEROXIDE ANYWAY. THE INFECTION NEVER HAPPENED AND SLOWLY IT DRIED UP AND TISSUE REGREW.
IF THE PEROXIDE DOES WORK FOR YOU, YOU WILL HAVE TO DECIDE THE TIME WHEN TO STOP APPLYING IT BY HOW THE CUT LOOKS AS IT'S HEALING.

There is home care you can do for minor bite/scratch wounds that came from "friendly fire" (i.e. one indoor kitty to another). Trimming the fur away from the wound, cleaning with hydrogen peroxide, and applying warm compresses are good first aid. However, a non-healing open wound with hair loss (kitty might not be doing that to himself - it could be the nature of the wound) requires a vet's assessment to make sure it is draining properly and to make a decision regarding antibiotic therapy.
My mom and I once treated a deep abscess in my cat's neck at home successfully. However, mom was a nurse, we had an extremely compliant cat, we had supplies for not only cleaning the wound but for irrigating it as well, mom knew how to do all that stuff, and even with all that, we STILL opted to put the cat on an oral antibiotic because the wound was so deep and smelly - it was clearly a bad infection and that means antibiotic therapy.
In short, please at least talk to the vet before you make the decision to treat this at home (and please don't just throw human first aid solutions, gunks, and junks on it before you consult your vet...please). This sounds like it could be an abscess and those can become very bad and require oral antibiotics as well as cleaning and daily wound care. At least call your vet and see if the doctor can call you back with recommendations. It is possible s/he can recommend you to see someone local. You'll need a local vet anyhow, so why not start now?

You can put some neosporin or cortizone cream on the wound. Since the cut's on the cat's neck, maybe tie a hankerchief around it so the cat can't get at it, instead of going to the vet and getting a cone to put around it's neck.

well, since it can reach the spot to lick it, be careful as to what you put on it. I would simply keep it cleaned with peroxide and watch it to make sure it doesn't abcess. If you put any ointment of anykind on it, keep in mind that your cat will probably just lick it off and it won't be doing any good, and may cause more harm. If you don't see any improvement after a few days, then call your vet, and see if he will recommend something to you, or even call in a prescription to a local vet for you to use.

You can wash it out really well, have someone help you. Then put antibiotic cream on it. You can by betadine over the counter and clean it out with that. If you cant get that then just soap and water. You will have to clean it for several day and apply the cream. It should heal. Cat bites are easily infected and cat scratches, so if it doesn't heal after several days of keeping it clean you may have to go to your vet for antibiotics.

Everybody knows that IPL is a center of match fixing and corruption. So there should not be any shock by latest spot fixing scandal and Sreesanth or two other cricketers are not isolated case. What will you say about a big no ball by RP Singh or three catches dropped by Pollord in a row. Why, even in yesterday's match between Rajasthan and Hyderabad, players of Rajasthan did not go for run out appeal in a clear run out. IPL is all about vulgar money. We audience have our daily fix of cricket-entertainment. Not only there is spot fixing but also matches are scripted and it is pre decided which teams are going to play off round and which team is going to win the trophy.

Most likely your cat will need a cone put around it's neck so it can't get to the wound. Vets normally leave those wounds open so they heal more quickly. You don't want to put anything on to treat the wound as your cat will lick it off.

sounds like a vet trip in the works.. but maaaybe it is high enough on his neck that you can put some neosporin on it and then get one of those lampshade thingies to go around his neck so he cant scratch it? the lampshade things are a great way to keep kitty from hurting himself, he may look hilarious for a while though!

Sounds like you need to get a vet closer to your area. I know that's hard. I had to do it when I moved. Give a vet close to you a call and tell them the situation. I'm sure they'll take your cat in for a look-see.

Then find a closer vet. The cat needs one, infections can get nasty, even fatal if untreated.
For the love of cats, DO NOT pour alcohol on it. Sheesh
