Seems like my cat has been freaked out since a lightning storm? Does this happen to cats?

I've taken cats in from the street and I also have cats who have been with me since they were kittens and never went outside. It's the cats who have lived outside who freak during storms. I guess that's a pretty scarey and miserable situation for them to be in, out in a storm. They remember....

They are just like people!!! Some get freaked, other's don't. My sister's cats freaked out during a bad lightning storm. Your cat will be fine, just give it time :)

Cats and dogs have hearing that is much more sensitive than humans. The lightning and thunder can be very loud to them. My pets don't like storms either.

I volunteer at a cat sanctuary, and yes, cat's freak out during storms and after storms. Sometimes it takes days for us to be able to walk up to the cats without them running in terror.

A cats hearing is very sensitive. Thunder produces a frequency that is alarming to them. Put them into a closed off room until the storm passes, and invest in kitten ear-muffs.

My indoor cat hides under my bed when it storms, but my outdoor cat can sleep through hard rain and thunderclaps...and the outdoor cat (1 1/2 yrs.) is younger than the indoor cat (9 yrs.).
