Your question is sort of like 'why is sand so sandy?' The modern conception of God is an all-powerful being, not Thor with a hammer or Zeus with a lightning bolt. If God, then of course, all powerful. If not all-powerful (omnipotent) then not God.
'Allegedly' -- hahaha, just makes me laugh. What kind of lawyer-speak is that? "So, God, you are allegedly all powerful -- perhaps you can do EVERYTHING for the benefit of the court today?"

An all powerful God is just what makes sense; it's what balances the equation. He would have to be all powerful, omnipresent, and omnisicient (perfect) if He was what created a perfect world (by which I mean everythin makes sense, nothing is random, etc.).

1. omiscient doesn't mean perfect. 2. god would have to be all powerful if it is the beginning and creation of all existance, to create all that is, would also mean to have control of all that is, thus all powerful.
