A total cure for a virus is not that easy, they are microscopic compared to even the cells of the body. Normally with disease, your body fights it with the white blood cells; however, in the case of HIV, those are exactly the cells that are targeted for infection. The only real cure for the HIV epidemic is for people to stop having sex with just anyone they meet. HIV-negative people should form more permanent relationships and avoid the one-night-stand scenarios while HIV-positive people should not engage in sexual activity with anyone, except other HIV-positive people. In a nutshell, I'm saying people should take a more responsible approach to sex, wait until they're married, and all that good stuff, like what your grandparents tried to teach your parents when they were kids.

yes, but definately not in the near future. These are due to the following reasons:-
1)The virus mutates at a tremendous rate. Scientists had already dveloped vaccines which proved successful for a brief period on chimpangees against SIV(identical to HIV for humans). As soon as U develop a vaccine, it mutates making the vaccine useless
2)Presently we can counter it by increasing the no. of T cells but it is also a temporary as virus mutates to a reistant species
3)Although, in chimpangees, the technique of putting one thief against another i.e antibiotics work efficiently, in humans, this test could not be done as no one will dare inject HIV in himself/herself in the fear that in might later cause AIDS
Never-the-less, in this era when science&tech has reached such heights, a solution will definately come some day. Let's keep our fingers crossed

i have read your answerer's and for the most part they're all wrong. You see this whole damned world is under attack by some kind of virus but didn't you notice we're still suffering from overpopulation. The whole damned world is heading towards overpopulation, more disease, because we're all ready under attack from all angles and science is trying very hard to stay one step ahead of the annihilation of the entire human species. And guess what? A little bug that you can't see is going to be responsible. Hows that for thought?

I think a cure will come about one day. But in the mean time we need to teach safe sex and have condoms available to anybody who wants them. Since most AIDS cases are in developing countries, we need money and people in these areas to educate and supply the inhabitants.

Obviously, you cannot understate the importance of having protected sex. Additionally, I think the drug companies have developed many drugs that have given AIDS and HIV patients a very good quality of life - it's just a matter of providing those drugs to those who can't afford them.
Eventually, I believe a cure (or something close to it) will be found, it's just a matter of the corporations recognizing their social obligation to provide affordable remedies for all.

Yes, its called NOT HAVING UNPROTECTED SEX AND SHARING USED -H- NEEDLES WITH ONE ANOTHER. By and large, the people that are dying of AIDS are mostly the uneducated drug addict scumbags. Seriously people, use condoms and stop having anal sex with gay dragqueens, theyre probably infected. Furthermore, this is 2006 we should have a cure, actually, we do have cure, but it should be readily available. Have you ever noticed that Federal U.S. Senators never die of Cancer nor AIDS, hmmm. Use your f***ing brain.

AIDS is spread through unprotected sex and illegal drug users sharing syringes.
We can spend billions of dollars TRYING to find a cure (no guarantees), OR...
we can stop having unprotected sex and stop drug users from sharing needles.
Which do you think is the easier, cheaper, more effective way to go?

We can all just stop having sex and wait for all those with HIV and AIDS to die. After that happens, we can continue having sex without worries because all those infected would be dead and there would be zero risk of getting it! Woohoo! I'm such a genius!
