When I was pregnant my little sister gave me a blue plush dog. I named his Mr. Fluffy Cakes and took him with me EVERYWHERE. It was my first pregnancy and I was so excited that I wanted to experience what it would be like when I had to take my baby everywhere. Anyway, for the 9 months both my husband and I became very attached to Fluffy and thought it would be a perfect companion for our son... since he was with us throughout the entire pregnancy. Well, Fluffy was with me during labor and he was my son's first toy. I took him and Fluffy everywhere and they never parted. Eventually, my son got very close and attached to Fluffy. He's 21 months now and likes to take him everywhere and shares everything with him. He's never been washed in the more than 2 years we've had him. My hisband was very concerned, but I read an article that said children who have a crusty companion are lesslikely to develop allergies or illness related to germs becasue their bodies don't see them as a threat... and despite all the negative sass from my father in law (who is a physician), I must say that our son HAS NEVER been sick since he was born!!! Anyway, Fluffy's head and most off his fluffing recently came off because of the "extra" loe and handling over the years. So, my husband, who had no previous sewing skills repaired him and he's just like new!!!

My six year old has a blanket that she got when she was a baby from my dad. She calls it her fuzzy. When she was little she needed it every night and when she was upset etc. Now there are certain nights she needs it and other nights that she doesnt. How we have managed to keep it six years I do not know. There was once we were traveling cross country and stopped at a family members house just for about an hour and forgot it at their house...luckily we noticed after just a few miles and were able to turn around and get it. And now that she is older there are times if we are going away for the weekend I forget it at home. Sometimes she doesnt even notice other times she has a fit. Thats what is hard about my daughter is you never really know when she is going to decide she needs the thing.
We are lucky too that it is made of a nice thick fleece and though it is thinner and has a couple holes it has basically taken all her (and the washing machines) loving abuse.
One thing I have seen people do when their childrens blankets start getting worn down is start cutting it up piece by piece. Like a piece a week. Until the child only has a little tiny piece of it left. And they can keep that as long as they want...but it can not be brought everywhere...it is just a special sleeping thing.
My two middle ones were not really attached to anything physical...not too badly anyway.
My little one loves his stuffed puppy. He insists on having it when he sleeps or when he is hurt. I just pray we never lose it...its kind of small!
Good luck!

My daughter loves her blankie too. Its a 12x12 square that someone got her from Babies R Us and once i realized that she was attached to it, i tried to go to the store to buy more. They werent in stock. I got scared because she wouldnt sleep with out the blankie so it had to be washed when she was awake and such.
But i found a phone number on the tag and called. I ordered 2 more of the blankets (which were only like $7 each with shipping). I have one that we did not open in case of emergency and the other is alternated while laundry is being done and incase she forgets it at the babysitters house. But i'm so glad that i ordered the extras.
BTW I still have my "blankie" from when i was little and i hope one day my daughter can share that she still has hers and it be one of the 3 that we have here.

My 8 year old son refuses to admit it to anybody, but he's attached to his Kiki (blanky) that he got when he was 2 weeks old. He will NOT let it go, and it's already almost completly shredded to pieces. I feel bad because it was such a beautiful blanket, and I wanted to take it away from him to preserve whats left of it. The only reason I didn't is this:
When I was about 7 years old, my parents rented out their house in California and we moved to Texas. Being so caught up in the fact that all my cousins lived in Texas and I actually had other kids to play with made me forget about my blanky. Well, not to long ago I asked my mom what ever happened to my blanky. She said that when we moved to texas I had forgotten about it so quickly that she threw it away. When she told me this, I felt my heart shred to pieces, and I'm 28 and live back in California now! It hurt me so much that I couldn't do the same thing to my son. Eventually I will frame whats left of it and hang it on the wall, then give it to him someday. But for now he can hold on to it till he's ready to give it up :)

My 8 month old LOVES her blankie! She has it with her all the time, sleeping and playing. The only time she is without her blankie is when she is eating. I bought a couple that look exactly the same as the one she's attched to. That way when one starts to wear out I can use the other one. I don't think there is anything wrong with a child having something like a blankie or toy to snuggle up to when they are going to sleep or upset.

I just went thru that with my 4 yr old. She slept with the same blanket from the day she was born until just a couple months ago. I told her we were going to put it away so it wouldn't fall apart completely, and when she's older, she will have it as a keepsake. Now she's got another blanket..lol.

My son is 3 and he's had a blue blankie since he was born. It is knit and used to have nylon binding. It's been washed so many times that the binding has fallen off, and I've had to cut some of it off. I always thought he'd outgrow it by now, and I can't find another blanket like it anywhere.

My 4 y.o has had a yellow Ty cat she named "Kitty" since she was born. Kitty goes everywhere with us. I've had to "rewhisker" her a few times. My mom has a spare in the closet. I could never take Kitty away.
When I was little I had a doll called "Baby Ann". I still remember my mom going back to a restaurant to go get her because I had left the doll in the booth. My mom let be give up my "Baby Ann" when I was ready. I plan to do the same for my daughter.

My daughter is attached to a bunny, since she was 6months she puts the ear over her eyes when she is going to sleep.. it is the cutest thing!
But my sister is 18 and still sleeps with whats left of her blankie.I think my mother had to replace it when she was 7, it is the size of her palm now and looks like it is going to vanish into thin air it is so thin!
I would purchase another one now so she gets used to it before the other is gone.
