Ephesians 5:19 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, 20always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. 17And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
There are 2 parts to Christian music.
1. The praise and worship of God.
2. Songs with a Christian message for evangelism or uplift.
In the first, the audience is God, and His requirement is to sing and make melody in your heart. He does not specify any musical genre, or preference of style or language. There is no record of the use of musical instruments for worship in the New Testament, nor in the rules about the worship on the tabernacle but there is mention of instruments being used in the temple.
In the second, the audience are people, and the type of music can be adjusted to suit the target audience, from heavy metal to baroque.

I don't think there's any one specific way to reach everyone with God's message, so I'm thrilled with any way that seeks to reach out to people who might not otherwise hear God's word.
While I could never listen to a rap or heavy metal Christian song or album, I understand that there are entire cultures out there who would otherwise not be exposed to Christian music. So, good for them. As long as it's truly exposing the Word of God and not subverting it, I think it's great.
For instance, at my church it's *all* traditional hymns. I don't sing during service because I don't know the tunes and they don't have any "power" over me (they don't move me, in other words). I've been to other churches of the same denomination that use "Marantha" music and I've found myself really getting into it - letting the words move me and my spirit. Who's to say it's any different for the rap fan?

I think I gives Christian Kids today a great alternative to what the world has to offer them! By the way I am one of the parents of the "older" music! It is good, too!

Believe it or not, I like the old music better. I'm Christian and I can't stand listening to today's Christian music. All of it sounds exactly the same...
Accoustic guitar and some guy who sounds like he has no brass when he sings. I understand the message is the same and true but alot of today's stuff is too wimpy. I like Southern Gospel Quartets like the Stamps and old Oak Ridge Boys. That stuff means something, not this cookie cutter garabge they have out now.

I love it! Rick Warren said there is no Christian music only Christian lyrics - I think God must love all of it if it lifts Him up. Different styles will reach different people. Paul said to be all things to reach people with the good news, it's great.
We all have love of certain styles of music and I am glad that believers use them to praise Him.
What a great question!

I think that it can be just as anointed as traditional music. Music has to change to reach it's audience. My grandparents didn't exactly like the "new" gospel music of the '70s and my parents don't like all of today's gospel music; but the music is reaching young people and that is what is important.

I think 'modern day' Christians are realizing that the traditional ways laid a good foundation, but we must keep changing with the times. I love the upbeat tempos and the words are still praising God - the Bible said that they sang and danced unto the Lord. I'm 40 years old and love Switchfoot and Tobymac!

My frien As long as you Worship God Any type of music is acceptable For God! Just as long as you Don't use it for any other purpose other than worship or listening or spreading the word of God Then it is fine! The music should also not be offensife of nature or Blaspheming!
