Yes, I want to go to Iraq, but the U.S. Army's cyber recruiter said I need a Green Card 1st, but the U.S. Army won't help me get one. I'm thinking if I want to join the U.S. Army, I can assume if I just go down to the U.S., some sypathetic American employer will help a Canadian.

My cousin is in the exact same position as you are, so I talked to a recruiter at my school for him (they come all the time). Anyways, he refered me to a friend of his who works in Bellingham that deals a lot with Canadian immigrants joining the U.S. Army, since Bellingham is right across the border from Vancouver. I don't know where you're from in Canada, but if you can get to an actual recruiters office then I think they can help you at least get your permanet resident alien status (which will later help you to become a citizen, if thats what you want). This isn't the first time a Canadian wanted to join the U.S. army, so some one will be able to help you.

Look at section 2-4 (on page 5) of AR 601–210. It looks like you have to already have a green card, or be from one of a few other places:

2–4. Citizenship
a. Applicant is eligible for enlistment if any of the following applies:
(1) Citizen of the United States.
(2) Alien who has been lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence.
(3) National of the United States.
(4) Citizens (to include naturalized citizens) of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Palau, and the Republic
of the Marshall Islands (RMI).
(5) Applicants and enlistees will be advised that, if they are not a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or a citizen of the
FSM, Palau, or the RMI that they must obtain U.S. citizenship to remain in the U.S. Army for more than 8 years.

the US military calls for a eco-friendly Card as well. in case you pick to serve contained in the defense force i'd advise sticking to Canada's forces because you received't ought to bypass through too a lot worry to satisfy up there as against attempting to get your visa and eventual eco-friendly Card to affix down right here. even if it really is as a lot as you average. extra: overlook what you heard and take it from a former recruiter: you should have a eco-friendly Card to affix. the military does not recruit foreigners who do not meet minimum enlistment criteria because to finish which will be considered a protection probability. Even eco-friendly Card holders are barred from getting a job that calls for a protection clearance.
