After dropping our son off at camp, my husband and I stopped at a nearby grocery store. While walking through the parking lot, my husband stopped because he saw a child 3 or under sleeping in a car seat unattended. It was 7:30 in the morning and already 85 degrees outside. My husband promptly notified the security guard at the store. When the woman came back to her vehicle she told him that she was only going in for a few things. ****Note to people who do this, Inside of cars, even on cool days, can reach 40 degrees hotter than the outside temperature in less than an hour.

People who do that should go to prison. Kids die that way all the time. If you can't take your child into the store, dont go to the store. Period. This happens all the time where I work (at a school). Parents come in to pick up their kids while the infant sibling is asleep in the car out in the parking lot! Someone could easily steal the kid away, or the kid could suffocate. it makes my blood boil.

Because these people are very stupid and selfish. I see a lot of that going on here as well. If something was to happen to the child, the first excuse would be "I was only gone for a few minutes!" This is unacceptable and parents who leave their children unattended in cars like that should be locked up.

I saw the same thing happen and I called 911. It was a hot day and the kids were in a car with the windows rolled up. I tried to get them to roll the window down but they were too afraid. I stayed until the police came 15 min later. The woman finally came out of the store and said "I was only gone a minute" and the cop said "I dont' think so." THey arrested her. With so many sickos out there, you can't leave your kid alone for a second.

It's child abuse. If you see it happen in future, don't contact the security guard, contact the police.

I can't imagine what goes through some people's minds. I hate to leave my son in the car while I go into a gas station to pay for the gas, even when it's less than one minute and I'm in full sight of the car! Unfortunately here in the UK, there are virtually no full-service stations, so unless there's a pay at the pump facility, you don't have any choice.

OH NO! People can be such idiots! I wouldn't leave my child in the car unattended even if it was cool outside. It only takes a minute for something to happen. What if the car were to catch on fire? What if someone broke into the car? The possibilties of something horrible happening are endless.

That is child abuse. If you have to go shopping that early leave your child with a sitter or have someone watch him until you come back with your few Items. Put the child in a baby stroller. I thought that's one of the reason they are there for. That's just like leaving an animal in a hot or cold car they have feelings to. I would have done the samething or even contacted child welfare services. I guess ignorant people do idiot things.

That's why I never go to the ATM anymore. I write a check and go through the drive-thru because I'm too lazy to bring my son in but I am too sensible to leave him in the car. If he falls asleep in the car I let him sleep. When I get home I park in my driveway and stay with him (I always have a book with me for this purpose). Someone asked me why I don't just leave him alone in the car in my own driveway. Hey - a car was stolen from my own driveway once before it could happen again.

I'd say this Mom got to the store, realized her little one was sleeping and thought she'd not wake the babe, she ran in the store for a minute of shopping, not long enough to cook the babe, only long enough to grab some much needed essentials and not disturb the child.
Next time, if you have a concern like this, wait a moment and see just how long Mom is really gone before passing judgement.

OMG, she shouldn't be allowed to have children if she's that stupid. Even if the heat wasn't an issue, anything can happen. Someone could steal the car, the baby could choke to death, anything. I would never be that stupid and irresponsible. We hear too much of children dying like that. That's toture and that woman should have been put in jail and had her baby taken from her. I know that it seems extreme but what could have happened to her baby, now that would have been extreme.

Because she's is a moron and does not deserve to have the priviledge of raising children. The local police should of been notified. Believe me, I know how scary that is..I live in a desert community and at least 1 every summer is left in a car to die...its is such a sad preventable crime.
