Worms are the ultimate composters. They will take all of your kitchen scraps of the fruit and veggie type and turn it into rich soil. Keep your bait buddies in a compost area and add lawn trimmings, apple peels, that limp yucky celery lounging in the bottom of the fridge, etc. Fish on!

Walmart stores sell an entire kit that not only feeds your nightcrawlers but keeps them for a long period of time. It's about 10 or 20 bucks and will save you from your worms dying. My dad got one and he loves it. It comes with a styrofoam container, worm bedding and worm food. You just add the worms. Hope this helps and Happy Fishing!!!!

Newspaper.... its true try it, the sugar in the paper they liek to eat, just make sure it is wet

Nightcrawlers also feed on thatch, a layer of live and dead plant material that can accumulate at the soil surface and reduce the penetration of water and fertilizer. as nightcrawlers feed on soil and plant material, they leave behind a waste product called castings. Nightcrawlers deposit castings in their burrows or at entrances at ground level forming conical mounds at the soil surface. These mounds can be seen in early to mid-spring when nightcrawlers are first active and again during fall. During late spring and summer, when weather becomes warmer, nightcrawlers move deeper into the soil and are not normally seen. good luck

Nightcrawlers feed on soil. They provide oxygen and other nutrients in your soil through their castings. SO, a little water and plenty of soil , and your worms should be fine. You don't want your worms to be swimming in the water either.

When I was young my step dad taught me to make a worm bed so I could have worms handy for fishing and sell them, this is what we did . In a wooden box in a shaded area we put soil mixed with used coffee grounds ( this kept the soil loose), then we lightly sprinkled it and mixed in some corn meal, added manure or compost also we would put lettuce leaves on top.and put a lid with air holes on top. every once in awhile we misted the soil to keep it lightly moist. we then went to buy our first and only earthworms that we wanted to raise the more we took care of them the more we got. he also showed me how to get them out of our yard easier instead of waiting all night. some people make different levels and use old screens inside the box .

Put them in a box with damp substrate (peat moss), poke a couple of holes in the lid of the box, and put some chopped cucumber or something similar in there as a food source. They should last for several days if not much longer. I do this all the time for bait purposes. One of those cheap glad containers works real well.

chicken mash is good. just sprinkle it on top. but don't overfeed whatever you use. it will spoil and kill them. watch for red mites, too. deadly to your worm bed. if you just want a bunch if worms, start raising rabbits, keep all their poop piled back of the garden, keep it moist and stand back and wait. and l said chicken mash - not mashed chickens. buy it at a feed store. its cheap.
