All I know is I had a prescription and they were 800 mg. but it was for extreme pain and a long time ago. I understand you can take as many pills to add up to 800 but one pill at 800 is better for your stomach - reason for prescription even though you can buy it outright.

800 mg. in an 8 hour period. That's the safest of the largest dose, but it is still terribly bad for your stomach. Be sure that if you take this, you eat something.

I'm not a doctor, but I've always heard the 500 mg is the max for severe pain.
