It's not immoral, it's natural. Religous people are going to tell you that you're going to hell for everything. Don't let others tell you how to live your life!

What is immoral for a man is also immoral for a woman, there are no double standards on true morality. It's a natural thing, but if you feel guilty about it, then don't do it until you come to terms with it. God prefers we wait until we have a mate, but he won't send you to hell for pursuing the gratification of a natural urge he's given you.

Well, I see a lot of people's answers here and I'm going to take a different approach. Mastrubation is not how God designed the act of sex. He designed it for a man and a woman in a marriage relationship. And so anything outside of that design is imperfect. Is it sin? Depends. If you can do the act without lusting, then no. If you can't, then yes. You also asked, is it a bad thing. Well, if someone becomes addicted to it, then yes it is a bad thing. If someone is married and they still need to do it, then it is a bad thing. It will not, however, send you to hell. If you are a Christian (believe that God came in the form of a man, Jesus, and this man took on the sins of the world, and gave his life for you, and you can receive his grace, a free gift, a gift you cannot earn, work for, or ever repay and accept his grace) then the Bible says that "nothing can separate you from the love of God." So, your bigger question is answered.

Ya know, as far as masturbating goes, Woody Allen said it best. "Masturbation is sex with someone I love." It's in no way immoral. Everyone, regardless of upbringing or moral standards, has needs and urges. It's better to fill those needs and urges then it is to let them sit and build.

YES it is totally normal!
The Bible takes the view of 'Natural Law', saying that anything sexual that doesn't lead to having a child (oral sex, condoms, homosexuality, etc.) is wrong. However, it is all how you look at it. For a man, masturbation was considered a sin because they felt that the man carried the whole child in his sperm, and that the woman was just a receptacle for the child to grow in (like a seed in soil, sort of perspective) and considered it equivalent to murder. Now we know exactly what a man and woman contain, and that having some self-love isn't going to kill anyone. Man or woman, everybody needs love.

LOL
I just had to respond to the 'Roman Catholic" answer... idiot. Masterbation IS wrong in the eyes of the Catholic Church. I'm not going to waste my time explaining why (I've spoken with several priests about it), but suffice it to say, it is considered wrong... as is birth control (such as condoms). Apparently, we are only supposed to ejaculate for the purpose of creating a baby.
Now... how do I feel about it? It's great. Everyone does it... in fact, I think I'll go do it now... Have fun!

I don't consider it immoral, but ultimately you have to decided for yourself if you think it is immoral or not.

I'm not a very religious guy but I do know that it's very normal. When I was station in Korea for 19 months, it was one of the things that keeps me from going insane.
