Thanks for asking before misinterpreting the text.
Actually this is not true, and many ayahs/verses are taken way out of proportion and out of context from the Qu'ran.
We are to only spread the message of Islam and it is for Allah to guide or misguide a nation or a person to Islam if He Wills it so. It is not up to us to change the hearts of people. But we must enjoin good and forbid evil and worship Allah alone - as our purpose in life.
So, no, this is not true. And actually, our "bible" is not really known as a bible. Our holy book is the "Qur'aan." And we believe also in the Old Testament sent to prophet Moses (peace be upon him) (or the Torah) and the New Testament sent down through prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) or the Injeel. However, due to changes in those scriptures over the years (from the rabbis and religious clergy who had taken charge of the holy scriptures) there was a new scripture, the Holy Quran sent to prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) which entails all the rulings of the Old and New Testament, and takes on a complete modern approach to both the old texts.
I hope that helps! :)

That is a very good question and I thank you for asking it. No, any religion with that ideology would naturally not last as most people would convert, then revert since faith needs firm knowledge and faith. The Holy Qur'an in either the Surah (Chapter) of the Virgin Mary or else where, it states that oppression is worst than slaughter; and Ayatul Qursi, which is a famous verse in the Holy Qur'an, it states that their is not compulsion in religion. Some hatemongers may inform you otherwise by useing certain verses in the Holy Qur'an that states to kill the unbelievers where ever you find them, but ofcourse this is related to a specific battle; for example the battle of Badr or Uhud, in which some people reverted away from Islam and were actually spies; any nation, including America has the death penalty of mutiny. If you study Islam for the rest of your life, you will not have covered every thing. It has been prophesied in almost every religion including Christianity and we accept prophet Jesus as a prophet like the rest, and Judas was crucified instead. God brough prophet Jesus to himself for his second coming as a follower of Islam; since every prophet had one special prayer for God, prophet Jesus wanted to be a follower of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). We basically believe in the Ten Commandments, except that we do not agree to the change which was brought about to the first law of the Commandments which was 'Do not worship other than the One God' and now it is some thing else.

there's a lot of misconceptions abuot us cuz of the media and government, but it is considered a semi-duty 2 try to convert ppl or at least set a good example 4 the world, but ur not supposed to kill everyone, or anyone. Islam combines the turn the other cheek philosophy that u guys have and at the same time we don't just sit and let ppl slap us all the time. However, we're not supposed to do things like kill 'infidels' unless we're attacked by them. The Muslims who get the most publicity only do the second thing. There's an in-depth explanation on www.whyislam.org.

The Koran is more peaceful than the bible. It is a delightful religion! I learned more about it while reading The Autobiography of Malcolm X when I was a teenager. Towards the end, he really starts to understand the true muslim religion is not about hate but love and peace.
Those muslims who are killing others are extremists, not poster children for all muslims. Don't judge a whole religion based on those who are not following its basic principles.

The book we follow is the Quran, not a version of the Bible.
The Quran is the authority in Islam. I will give you a beautiful verse:
Allah says in the Quran " There shall be no compulsion in the acceptance of religion" 2: 256. Surah Baqrah ayah 56. Don't believe me? look it up yourself. So your point that you were tuaght that Muslims convert or kill is refuted. Also in the time of the Prophet Muhammad there were those who weren't Muslim that lived at peace within those who were Muslim. As far as killing:
Allah says in the Qur'an, "Who so ever kills a human being f it shall be as if he has killed all mankind, and who so ever saves the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind," (Al-Ma'dah:32)."
and in war civilians are not to be killed, regardless.
And I will leave you with the words of the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said
Narrated by Abu Huraira:
"The Prophet said, 'Religion is very easy and whoever overburdens himself in his religion will not be able to continue in that way. So you should not be extremists, but try to be near to perfection and receive the good tidings that you will be rewarded; and gain strength by worshipping in the mornings and during the last hours of the nights.'" (Bukhari, vol. 1, Bk. 2, #38)

I am also a Christian, but after an in depth Bible study I discovered the following. The Muslim religion is similar to having an angel on each shoulder recording your every move. The one on the right keeps track of the good you do in the name of Allah and the one on the right keeps track of all the bad that you do. At the end of your life which ever side is up in good vs. bad determines where you spend eternity, except in the case of martyrdom of which places you in paradise immediately. You see they live in a constant state of not knowing if they are going to their heaven or to hell. They are in constant torment because they don't know their future.

If you convert to Islam by force, your Islam is not accepted, because you should choose Islam freely and this is why the Quran makes it clear that there is no compulsion in religion. However, Muslims try to convert people because they know for sure it is the only way to eternal happiness and all other ways are closed, we love to save people and brothers in humanity from hell, but we should also know our limits.

ok think about it brother, if Islam allowed me to marry christian and Jewish women, should i go kill my wife by now for not being Muslim? No.
if faith comes from the heart, how i am going to force it on someone? Quran is very clear on this, and God explained that there is no force to convert to religion. the truth has been cleared from the false. it's ur own decision to take, you chose this way or else.
God here told Muhammad as a way of question. are you trying to force people to become believer??
Quran ch10
[99] And had your Lord willed, those on earth would have believed, all of them together. So, will you (O Muhammad (peace be upon him)) then compel mankind, until they become believers
[100] It is not for any person to believe, except by the Leave of Allâh, and He will put the wrath on those who are heedless.
so Muhammad understood that not with force a person can believe. and God recommended him to force no one to believe. because no one will believe except with a primission from Allah alone.
thanks

I am a nonChristian but studied this religion and Islam quite well as President of an InterReligious Dialogue. We can share our knowledge. ... About your query, forced conversions are not valid in Islam. The Islam ruled India for a thousand years, yet they were a minority religion in 1947 when it was partitioned into Pakistan and India. No conversion was forced...
