If a criminal turns himself in then as per the case of Re Sigsworth he cannot profit from his crime. The actual case saw a man murder his own mother so he could claim the life insurance money. He served 15 years in prison and then sued for the insurance money. However the judges in the Court of Appeal decided that as a criminal could not profit from his crimes on sheer moral principles, usually referred to as policy reasons.

Rewards are usualy offered because someone has jumped their bail bond. Therefore the bondsman is offering the reward to try and cut their loss. The bond is owed by the criminal to the bondsman. Would you reward someone who ran out on a debt they owed you by giving them more money for turning up!

Absolutely not. He is the person who is the suspect in a crime, and the reason that an offer had to be placed in the 1st place is due to his actions. He is going to be afforded due process, but cannot be rewarded beyond this; believe me and I am a criminal defense lawyer, if anyone felt this person were entitled, it would be a person such as myself!

hehehe, that's a really good point! i reckon if they said that, more dumb criminals would hand themselves in. then not only would the police have the criminal but they could confiscate the money back - that'd be sweet! kinda tease them with it before taking it away again :oD
