What things, photo's, memories, advice, etc. should a family pass on to their children?

Everything they have and know. That way the kids know where they came from and learn values that run in the family. I just recently discovered my grandma on my dad's side was the sister-in-law to the original Nordstrom family (high-end department store in the northwest). I never knew that before.
