Bush already has a North American Union in place, take a look at spp.gov.
My problem with this is not Canada, since they are roughly co-equal in economy and frankly better in benefits. They wouldn't be flooding our borders to get our subsidized education in the future any more than they are now.
The problem is that Mexico is NOT a co-equal economy and does not have universal education, much less basic health care, etc. They WOULD flood over, even more than now, and our education system and services can not pay for all of those people.
As an actual country, I doubt it would happen even with Canada. They don't want to be Americans, and fond of our neighbors as we are, most of us do want to remain Americans.
We could have an EU arangement, however between us and Canada. I don't know if it is a good or bad idea. I'd need more details.

I'm Canadian, and most of you take the Can-U.S. border wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too seriously.
Canada and the U.S. should join because Canadians and Americans are the same people. The border causes a lot of problems such as preventing labour from going where it is the most productive.
We have labour shortages in Alberta, Canada (maybe you saw the 60 Minutes story on the Alberta oilsands), yet I've never worked with an American??? I've worked with people from every other country in the world except the U.S., which makes no sense to me. Americans should be the 1st ones not the last ones coming to Western Canada, but the border is stopping them because it's only worth it for impoverished 3rd World immigrants to go through the red tape legally or to come illegally for the inevitable future amnesty.

This sounds retarded. Canada is larger than u.s. and has a lot less inhabitants yet are extra nicer than the final human beings and likewise, Canada is as prosperous as u.s.. Why in hell may a prosperous u . s . a . like Canada joined a smaller prosperous u . s . a . like u.s.? That makes no experience. u.s. and Canada are very similar and Canada is larger and as prosperous as u.s.. That makes no experience. the in ordinary words way Canada changed into about to be u.s. changed into in the conflict of 1812 and if the British lost, Canada will be u.s. except if Canadians strive against and develop right into a self sufficient u . s . a .. also, human beings invaded Canada in the course of the conflict of 1812 and Canada changed into in ordinary words a British colony even as u.s. changed into about more beneficial than a 30 years previous u . s . a . and the Canadians kick their asses.

Nope, Canada can **** off and go make maple syrup, or something. We can employ our own citizens, generate our own energy, and all the other countries trying to permanently weld themselves into our national infrastructure and economy can go fly a kite. We've been more than generous with half the world, in payment we're being eaten alive...other countries can focus on standing on their own two feet again...

I've lived in Canada and the US. In some ways they are similar but they are also very different from each other. I definately do not think that they would be able to agree on laws. One example is Canada supports homosexual marrage and the US doesn't.

Haha...now there's a spark in a smouldering haystack. I'm not Canadian but have some Canadian friends and know they are a proud nation who won't want to merge with anybody. Just recently escaped the claws of Britain, why would they want to walk into the claws of another neo-colonialist who wants to rule the world. F..ck that.
(Anyway, America has their their sights on Iran and N-Korea first before it's who kows who gets it next.)

Not a chance in hell. Believe it or not, Canadians are far different that Americans (more than people realize) and we need to keep it that way.
