This is the USA. They should be proficient in English.

I am tired of all the Spanish everywhere, aren't you? What about all the immigrants from other countries--their languages aren't plastered all over! I bet you are, too!

Why should we care if they are proficient in Spanish?

What about all the Eastern European and Chinese guest workers we will get?

No, we need them to be learning or know English so everyone can communicate with everyone.

Actually, proficiency in English should be required ... after all, that's the non-official official language, isn't it? Proficiency in Spanish should not be a requirement ... neither should proficiency in Mandarin, Thai, or any other language for that matter ....

Yes absolutely a proficiency in English is required. In order to work in the US you are interacting with an English speaking country. If we cannot understand what you are saying and you cannot understand what we are saying then how can we be productive. Think about it........

Proficiency in English should be required to live or work in the United States. Look at other countries. I can bet that if you move to Russia, Germany, France, ect... That they are not going to support your language. You will have to speak their native tounge. You want to move out of your country you have to do certain things to survive in the other. A minor detail is picking up the language. You will be more successful in that country. It SHOULD be required.
