Absolutely not! Cycling shorts are designed to be worn without underwear. The primary function of the chamois (pad in the crotch) is to provide a smooth, seamless (or flat-seamed) interface between your crotch and the bicycle seat. When you wear underwear, you insert seams back into this interface which increase the chances of chafing. Many people believe the pad in cycling shorts is to provide cushion...this is only an additional feature added by some manufacturers, NOT the pad's primary function.

No you should not wear underwear under your cycling shorts due to the fact that your underwear has seams that will chaffe you. You should find something that fits your riding style and comfort level.
If you do not already have shorts that are comfortable you should look for shorts that are cut in a manner that causes the seams to rest in areas away from where your body comes in contact with your bicycle seat.
Do not feel that you have to fit in and wear what you see on t.v. or out on the street eather, just wear what is comfortable to you.

If you are wearing real cycle shorts, the short already have padding in them. If our cycle shorts don't have padding in them, get rid of them and get a pair with padding.
Wearing underwear defeats the purpose of the padding and can cause chafing and even the dreaded saddle sores.
If you're worried about modesty, bring a pair of baggy cargo shorts to wear over your cycling shorts before and after your ride.

Don't wear underwear under spandex cycling shorts. The chafing causes saddle sores plus it detracts from the smooth lines of the shorts (goofy). It is a mark of a newbie, just like the grease tattoo on the right calf.

No way.
However, they do make special cycling underwear to fit under your shorts if you feel you absolutely have to.

It is not necessary because cycle shorts have enough support and padding. But if you want to make sure you wear underwear that is tight (i.e. not boxers).

yes I do. I feel better wearing underwear because of the sweating. From my experience, cotton stretch or nylon stretch briefs are the best kind of underwear to wear when wearing bike shorts.

Negative on the undies. Don't wear them outside your cycle shorts either.
