Why must someone be wrong in their thinking in order to make your opinion correct, no matter the topic, no matter the consequences, just so you can say I win?

Because it's power. There are so many dumb "sheep" that will just follow someone that says, I am "This" or I am "That".

Perhaps because they don't really have religous convictions in the first place. They just claim they do in order to get the support of fundamentalists.

Being against gay marriage is also an easy vote grabber

They probably do not want to stop sinning because they are enjoying it so much.

Most people probably have some kind of sin like this in their lives (they might be small one that do not get noticed that easily and are not spelled out in the Bible as a sin). We need to keep asking God to show us what He want to get out of our lives, to get closer to Him.
