Watch the pronoun use, your statement/question are a bit shaky.

Because a lot of people play dirty, like it or not.

The only reason that I can think of that someone would manipulate their religious conviciton in order to accomplish something, be it evil or good, is due to one of the following reasons. Perhaps they were led wrong. The problem with religion in general nowadays is that it's so askewed from it once was, or what we believe it once was. Who's to say that they aren't actually falling what their religion tells them to do? No one can have eyes on every person transcibing the Bible, or the Quran, or the Bagavhadgitta. Perhaps it's not the person you should blame, but the ones who came before them...the ones who turned religion into the controlling power it is today, instead of the life giver that it once was.

The Bible has many examples of such people. God warns against it. In the Old Testament, we see the example of King David and Bathsheba. In a nutshell, David (from David & Goliath) falls in love w/ a married woman he saw bathing on a rooftop, he slept with her, got her pregnant, and then murderered her husband by sending him to die in winless battle. Then he married the "widow", but the truth came to light. God hates this kind of behavior. It is hypocritical. Yet, David repented and eventually came back to God.

Don't judge God by others claiming to know Him. You will always be let down. Get to know Him for yourself.

Obviously, it can't be me.
Obviously, it must be the other guy.
Therefore, I win...
