Does anyone know if there is a way to get help for Depression without have insurance, other than hotlines? I have searched over the internet, and I have found the Samaritans email, and various hotlines, but I was wondering if anyone knew if there was some sort of therapy that a person can get without having health insurance?

Any Help Would Be Appreciated.

Try getting a book called Prescriptions for Nutritional Healing. It makes recommendations for dietary changes and vitamins and mineral supplements that one can take for depression. I know that it is normally considered to be an alternative form of medicine, but I do think that diet and depression are related. Dietary changes have helped me a lot and I can really tell (by my mood and feelings) when I am not eating properly. Exercise has also been shown to help elevate moods.

If you are looking for a counselor, see if there might be a group at a local church or perhaps they can make a recommendation for a counselor who you could afford.

Good luck!

I suffer from a Seratonin imbalance for which I am on SSRIs (Selective Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitors) and have been for a few years now. There should be support groups available through churches or the YMCA that might help. If you are a student, your school counselor may be able to help. Feel free to contact me if you want to chat about the depression or have any other questions. I've been in your shoes and I sympathize.

Use your voice!! The best therapy is to take your mind of your life with friends. Invite people over, try to have others invite you over.

Also get exercise. A good walk everyday helps more than you could know about depression.

Where are you from? check for free clinics. not only can the diagnose depression but they can give you the medicine you need. also if you feel depressed, stay away from all caffeine, it only makes it worse. call a doctor or hospital and ask them if they can refer you to someone. be honest tell who ever you call that you do not have insurance. call the local welfare office they can give you some doctors that will see patients without insurance.
