All of Israel's defensive invasions where quick moves to take out the Russians that where present in Arab countries to follow the Arabs once they made the first move.
The Arabs though wanted the Russian planes (painted in Syrian and Egyptian colors) to make the first move in the war which delayed the 6 day war by more then a week, which pushed Israel to make the move.
A study is in the middle of being made about direct Russian involvement in the 5 direct Arab/Israel wars including Lebanon in the 80s... shoking but true.
We all know what Nassar and the Arabs where loudly saying about attacking, throw them into the sea would have been a kindness, we can swim... it would have been an absalute massacre which in the end would have essculated into a massive war between America coming from Israel fighting the soviets who where allready there etc.

There is no such thing as a war or an invasion that is legitamate. I am not saying that war is not needed, or that the war's fought in world war I or II or any other war are wrong. War exists independantly of legitimacy. There is no need for a war to be legitamate, and therefore it is a waste of time and a fallacy to waste time trying to make your war seem OK. War is not OK on a humane level, however it is needed, it is part of who we are, when we wage war we are just being human. And by the way the legitamacy of any military action is completely subjective to whoever is answering the question. There are those who see World War II as being wrong. They are a minority in this country but they are still out there. My point is that in war, right and wrong, are almost academic exercises.
But as to the specific answer of your question... First gulf war was "legitamate" as we had requests from the ousted rulers of Kuwait for help, Vietnam ehhh not so much ill-legitamate as ill-advised. Same for korea (both wars were prosecuted in order to halt the spread of communisim).
But that is all I can think of as being really legitamate.

Somalia in the early 90's (the topic of the movie "Blackhawk Down") was to attempt to prevent civil war from leading the nation into the hands of an excessively militaristic and brutal leader.
Kosovo in prevention of genocide.
The First Gulf War protecting Kuwait (debatably done for the oil). We invaded Iraq in response to its invasion of Kuwait and attempted expansionism.
The Korean War was legitimate. We were trying to save south Korea...attempted and failed to take North Korea though.

That's a subjective question, what qualifys as 'legitimate' to one sideias always seen by another as aggressive or unlawful. There have been many wars (Boer War, Crimean War, Iran Iraq War) - none of them are legitimate, war in its nature is not legitimate. Was is a sign that things have gone to far, that people has not negociated or pursued diplomatic means to reach a resolve.

You really can't get a fair answer when you put qualifiers on a question like that, but let's try this.
South Korea by North Korea, act of war
South Vietnam By North Vietnam, act of war
Isreal by Egypt/Jordan, Yom Kippur, act of war
Egypt by Isreal, pre-emptive strike
Kuwait by Iraq, active war
Afganistan by United States, act of war
Iraq by United States, pre-emptive strike
Do I really need to go on? You really need to define legitimate, though, it will probably help you obtain some better answers.
