The eyes of the Lord run to and fro in the Earth, looking for a man in whom He can show Himself strong. To be born again is to become a new creature in Christ. Behold, old things have passed away and all things have become new. The cross symbolizes death. We are called to die daily. Why daily? Because we will be tempted every day to put down our cross and live OUR lives instead of the life of Jesus. Honestly, we have failed. Jesus said "strait is the gate and narrow the way that leadeth to life and FEW there be that find it." He went on to say that, "broad is the way that leadeth to destruction and many there be that go in there at." Paul warned of showing others the way to Christ and then yourself becoming a "castaway". To rely upon God for our daily bread is something most "christians DON'T do today, at least here in America. But it doesn't have to be so. We can resolve in our minds to trust God. Let us place Christ upon His throne in our hearts and say NO to the world, say NO to our wants, say NO to a bigger house, say NO to that boat, say NO to having a large retirement account, say NO to all of the extravagancy and luxioury that we as christians can't afford, neither monetarily nor spiritually. Let us take up our crosses daily, forgetting what is behind us, but rather going forward in Christ Jesus the saviour of our souls. It is no small thing, that which we have been saved from. We must embrace this life that God has ordained for us. Run the race well, remember, "the eyes of the Lord runneth to and fro through the whole Earth, seeking a man(or woman) in whom He can show Himself strong. Amen.

First we need to identify the meaning of the cross as Jesus' followers would hear it. At the time Jesus spoke these words, Jesus had not been to the cross so His followers did not see the meaning as we do on this side of Calvary.
The cross signifies our ownership of sin and it's consequences in light of God's love and forgiveness. Our cross is sharing that love and forgiveness to others as Jesus did regardless of the consequences we may face even death. So how willing are we to take up our cross daily - even if it means dying for cause of the Gospel as Jesus died for us?

I can see there is some misunderstanding about what is meant by carrying your cross daily. This does not mean a cross or crucifix around your neck or in your pocket. What it does mean is going through your life, daily, being an immitator and follower of Jesus in all our actions, words and deeds. Many things happen in our lives that are hard to bear in one way or another. For instance perhaps you have a sickness or disease, an accident where you or a loved one were injured, perhaps you have a parent who is aging and needs your care, it can be as simple as an irritating nosey neighbor, etc. We deal with life and its circumstances (often referring to them as crosses) in a way that is total acceptance AND Gratitude for all things in our life, both good and bad. That does not mean that we do not use whatever help is at our disposal to help alleviate the cross and blindly accept it. We go to doctors, we bring wayward children to counsellors, we seek medical treatment when needed, but through it all, we accept it as we work through it. Jesus carried the weight of the world on His shoulders as he carried His (our) cross on His shoulders and we must do the same. He was not grumbling incessantly, complaining, He carried His cross with great love and complete resignation and trust in the will of God the Father. May we all carry our crosses as Jesus did.

Carrying a cross is symbolic, not material. Admittadly, I do not always carry my cross everyday, and it's something I should work on, because in the end it makes me less selfish. The chain reaction that comes from helping other people, being nice to strangers, is worth every minute of it, I just have to make more of an effort to do it.

I think He meant to suffer through fighting each good fight, not physically carrying a cross. Yes, I try to be good and obedient, helpful and loving and tell others about Him. My "cross to bear" is changing... I'll let you know when it comes into closer view. I feel that I did "leave all to follow Christ." Being single, abstinent and refusing to compromise my Godly values was my doing that. I'm married now, and simply following the 10 commandments and tithing and loving my neighbor requires much sacrifice.

Yes, my 'cross' is sin and after more study I'm more aware of it. Instead of sin being something easy that can be cast off in a whim, it is like little chains surrounding every cell of the body! (and other through the perfect sacrifice of Jesus can I ever break free of it).

I only wish I could leave everything and follow Jesus but it is not as simple as following Him in human form. There is work for us to do in every corner.

Yes I do carry my cross for Jesus. All the struggles in life are my cross, but I have Jesus to get me though it all, for He is always with me through it all. I praise Him for it every day, and I witness His word to others as He instructs me to. I live for Him because He died for me. Thank you Jesus.
