I've been dying my hair for years, an auburn colour (although even if i put in a brown it goes redish!) I want to lighten it, its a mid-tone now. Is it advisable to do this at home? I don't want to go blond, just down 6 shades/tones. Also I've dry, curly, sometimes frizzy hair... i think i know the answer already!! What products are best if anyone has done this successfully??

Well before you dye it anymore you need to get your hair in better condition try using aussie 3 minute miracle for about a month every day. It is very helpful. Also make sure you are using a moisturizing shampoo as well. The best bet on coloring is to go to a professional atleast for the first time. Then after you get the color you are wanting you can maintain it at home.

Ok, I have just recently done this. Do you have a Sally Beauty Supply near where you live?? They have this kit called the "One and Only" Color Reducer kit. It's not bleach or anything like that, it removes the dye from your hair. Now, you have to retint your hair when you are done because it will look a little orange or yellow. If you don't want to red anymore, Get color that says ash, like Light ash Brown. It has blue in it which counter acts with the red and gives a more neutral color. Red is the hardest color to get out if naturally in your hair and the hardest to keep in if you are dying it that color. Keep that in mind. After that, deep condition your hair about 3 times a week with Le Kair Cholesterol (it's ethnic hair care, you can find it in any wal-mart, and it works on people that don't have ethnic hair). It's the best stuff ever and it's under 2 dollars for a 2 week supply. After you deep condition, put some of your normal conditioner in your hair and it will make it super soft. Reduce how much you deep condition by the month . . . like next month only do it twice a week and so on after that. Hope that helps.

Semi permament colorations are good to apply like loopy colour and instructions, this type of dye isn't adverse you could placed it on as a lot as you want. It doesn't contrain any peroxid. If ur hair is allready damaged i'd sugest utilising a conditionin remedy, mutually with nioxen this may restore ur hair.

well first since youve been dyind it aburn your going to have a reddish tone...red is the hardest to get rid of so before you even think about lightening heres what you do get something that counters the red like chochlate brown something dark enough to cover it completely even medium brown dont get scared when i say dark just darker than you color now, then highlight it that way you prevent the most damage im a color specialist so if you dont wat us professionals to so it reemember that dye cats your hair doesnt burn it out what burns your hair is bleach, try this if your medium to dark skin toned try feria bronze shimmer #58
and get a at home highlight kit the key to this is to pull like thin strands evenly i know it sounds scary but its really easy my husband does it when i do my hair at home (lol) you can email me with more questions but just remember since you have dry hair use a good dye like feria good luck honey and after give your hair either a hot oil treatment or deep conditiong mask it will be beautiful oh yea i just reasd above me do not strip your hair your curls will be ruined since your hair is already dry i dont believe in this only in exceptional cases

I have had nothing but bad luck with those at home dye jobs when you need to lift or lighten the color. I would go to a professional if you want to lighten it, especially 6 shades!

I would suggest going to a professional and/or getting lowlights of a different red/brown shade that you want to get a two-tone hair color all over. But kinda pricy.

Quick Tip: Hair color will not lift hair color. That means that if you color your hair, another hair color will not give you blonde. You will need to decolorize the hair (BLEACH). I suggest getting this done professionally. Red is always unpredictable, and more than likly you will end up with brassy orange highlights! Remember, It is always twice as much to fix the mistake as it would have been to get it done right the first time.

I hate to say this, but coloring your hair or dying hair over a period of time is linked to cancer, there are more studies being done on this but so far the results have been proven. As I always say,"what god gave you should be left alone, and be proud of the gift that was givin"

NO! You need to go to a professional!! You are going to end up seriously damaging your hair! The at home kits are junk compared to the quality you will get from a professional!

Definitely go to a salon and get that professionally done. I know its only hair but you don't want it to fall out from over processing.
