Your question is a little confusing.
If you are the person GIVING the Reiki, yes, you can set up a grid or use the distant healing techniques to continue to send while asleep. Your body can channel the energy whether you are awake or asleep--my cats sleep on my feet at night to get Reiki from me and have since I had my first attunement 8 years ago.
If you mean, can you GET reiki while asleep, of course.
Having your head covered is irrelevant in either case.

Yes energy will still flow, the energy will travel thousand of miles distant if you set your mind in it, I prefer to work with my son when he is asleep because he would relax and wont be in a hurry to go play, same with my husband but he really falls asleep in the process so that is different, he likes me to do Reiki for him because it relaxes him and he sleeps better.

Do you mean if you can? If the patient falls asleep while you are administering it there is no problem at all.
I oinly got as far as second degree, so hopefully a Master answers. I imagine you can set yourself for it. I know reiki still flows while one sleeps, but...
