Actually, it's a pound of sand, if the nails are silver or gold. Sand is measuring in Avoirdupois, but precious metals are measured in Troy. A troy ounce, the only currently used unit of the system, is 480 grains, somewhat heavier than an avoirdupois ounce (437.5 grains). Though the Troy ounce is heavier, Troy weight is measured 12 ounces to the pound as opposed to 16 ounces to a pound for avoirdupois.
If they are common nails (iron and or steel) they weigh the same.
