Genesis 32

Jacob Wrestles With God
22 That night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two maidservants and his eleven sons and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. 23 After he had sent them across the stream, he sent over all his possessions. 24 So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak. 25 When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob's hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. 26 Then the man said, "Let me go, for it is daybreak."
But Jacob replied, "I will not let you go unless you bless me."

27 The man asked him, "What is your name?"
"Jacob," he answered.

28 Then the man said, "Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, [e] because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome."

29 Jacob said, "Please tell me your name."
But he replied, "Why do you ask my name?" Then he blessed him there.

30 So Jacob called the place Peniel, [f] saying, "It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared."

Jacob won!

As a result he suffered with pain in his hip joint

and he was given the name Israel...as a result of his wrestling with the angel

come to think of it: i don't reckon there was a winner, he just wrestled with the angel all night; but, if i had to make a choice i would go with Jacob

You already asked this question earlier today. So I'll give you my answer again:

God won the match. God always wins whenever a believer firmly, yet patiently, endures a test sent to him by God; and that's what Jacob did -- he endured, but he did not prevail against God.

How do we know for sure God won this match? Jacob was renamed "Israel." In Hebrew, this means "God prevails."

For more information on the huge emphasis God gives to endurance against struggles, read 2 Timothy 2: 1-13.

Peace and love in Jesus.

Jacob was not a nice guy - he was a cheat and a liar.
After his struggle with God it was not only his name that changed but his attitude.
We sometimes need to struggle with God. It is the hard lessons which teach us more and deepen our discipleship.
So both God and Jacob won.

Nobody won. And they are still fighting over that in Israel and Palestine. Both were born out of the same family but devided by different religions. It is up to them to continue with their stupidities.
