We have a lot of NASTY stable flies, horse flies and dear flies where we live (in the country) and one of my dogs has very short hair...the stable flies especially like to "eat" her alive. I've been using flea and tick spray on her and it works great...lasts a long time too.

Burt's Bees Bug Repellant. Just put it on their ears. Almost completely natural.

I've heard that rubbing a "bounce" dryer sheet on you (or your doggie in this case) it helps keeps pests away...I don't believe it would be of any harm as long as it's not an excessive amount. Good luck.

There must be a powder or spray you can use. Check the net for anything like that. Good Luck.

You can use the same stuff that you would for horses, on your dogs. They carry it(I cant remember what its called) at veterinary supply stores, and at Petsmart.
