I've been asking myself the same question over and over again. I guess they just want to be independent. Then let's not forget the system...I believe that most of the problems why American families are not like any others start with the system. Here if you are under 25 and you are not married or you don't have children you:
1) pay more on car insurance
2) when you fill out an application for student aid you have to declare your parent's income because you are considered a dependent (even if you have a job and live by yourself)- which hurts you because most of the times you do not qualify to get the money to go to college
3) pay more taxes
Those are just few of the reasons why Americans move out of their parents house at an early age, get married and have children. Now I am not saying that all Americans get married and have children to cheat the system etc...that's by far what I am trying to say...I believe that unknowingly Americans are thought to "grow-up" (get a job when they are young, move out of their parents house etc) sooner than people in other countries because of the bureaucracy (which cheats young people). You really have to be here to understand how different American life style is...I could not tell you how frustrating it is to be young, not married, no children, and trying to make it on your own and focusing on an education!

you're making an excellent style of incorrect assumptions the following. American father and mom of all races help to pay for faculty instructions in the adventure that they could arise with the money for it. Many non-Asian people also live interior of an same domicile w/ their grown little ones till those little ones can arise with the money for to live to inform the tale their own. that is maximum acceptable for the newly divorced. This has been taking position steadily extra for decades. also on the upward thrust is at domicile elder care. All of those are afflicted by using the commercial equipment, interest availability and the minimal salary. What community have you ever been residing in? The elderly at the on the spot are not the duty of gov't. maximum homeless shelters are run by using inner most charities or non-earnings orgs. some homeless people have households yet they choose to be homeless with the aid of psychological ailment or different themes like abuse. Many seniors do not have households to fall back on. not all of us has little ones. lots also relies upon on the courting between the father and mom and little ones.

alot of silly answers huh. a big thing in this country is freedom. I'm old school greek and understand where you're coming from. i agree with the european way. this country has way too many people renting b/c they can't afford to buy something. we spend too much money on the trivial things (and move out) whereas in Europe kids ARE given freedom and respect but their parents make them understand why. this way they get the best of both worlds...they do get their freedom and save money to buy a home.

Its just our culture here. You are expected to start your own life, own family when you become an adult, at 18 usually. We're all so self absorbed, all we think about is ourselves. I think maybe the focus on family is lost because we only care about ME ME ME around here. You will still see in America, mid-eastern and hispanic families all living together and taking care of their elders. But for the most part, we as Americans are pretty sorry when it comes to family. :-( Sad to say.

Well, I've moved out of my mother's house twice. Mostly because, we grow up with the idea that when you finish school, you need to go out on your own, live your own life, make your own choices, and pay your own bills. I do plan to take care of mother-WHEN SHE NEEDS IT. She's not that old, she's still working and taking care of herself-and me sometimes. Everybody has to leave the nest sometime, and sometimes you want to get away from your parents. I'm about to move to the other side of country to get away from mine, lol.

most kids move out at 18 to go to college. after school most come back home until they find a job, save some money and can live on their own.
only those low class people would throw their children out at 18 to sink or swim.

In America our parents teach us to be a responsible person. We go to college and figure out what we will our life to be. Our parents are always there for us. It is alot of freedom and our way of becoming who we want to be. Our parents gives us advice and it is up to us to decide what will be. When we are people with rules and some of us like to be on our own so we can come and go as we please. No one telling us what to do and when to come home at night. They love us and we love them.

cos kids at that age think they are mature to live and run their own lives. they dont to be bossed around by their parents. but funny how many come back after life gets too hard for them. its not what they thought it would be.

Then don't.
Perhaps it originated in the Christian tradition of the man leaving his mother and clinging to his wife. And the "frontier" and technology multiplied the possibility of separation.
