I'm sorry. I'm just an atheist so I'm a little slow when it comes to "faith" and I need this spelled out.

It was like a guide to becoming a messiah. All Jesus had to do was follow the guidelines, and bam, he's immortalized.

The Hebrew Scriptures (commonly referred to as the Old Testament) are part of the scriptures described by the apostle Paul at 2 Timothy 3:16-17 as inspired of God, beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight and for disciplining in righteousness in order that the man of God may be fully competent and completely equipped for every good work. The Hebrew Scriptures also are part of the scriptures described at Romans 15:4 as “All the things that were written aforetime were written for our instruction, that through our endurance and through the comfort from the Scriptures we might have hope.”

So in truth, the Hebrew Scriptures are much more than a paving of the way to the Messiah.

The Old Testament contains the History, trials and tribulations that the Jewish people went through.

It also contains all the different attempts that GOD made to reconcile man and Himself after the original sin in the Garden of Eden.

The New Testament contains the testimony of Jesus Christ as the Son of God and Savior of mankind.

It is said, and I believe correctly, that the Old Testament is the foundation of the New. Just like the Jewish religion is the foundation of Christianity.

As I understand things, there is a little more to it than just that. The need for a sacrafice to cover sin was well established by the requirements of the Law the Jews received. A pattern of the heavenly arrangement, was laid out in the temple arrangement, with it's fixtures, rooms, priests, etc. Yet this was done primarily for the Jews. They were being prepared for the messiah. By and large they failed to recognize him when he appeared. Of course all can benefit today.

The old testament introduced us to God, gave history and Prophets. There is instruction in Proverbs and encouragement in Psalms. The new testament shows where the prophecy's were fulfilled, except a couple that still will come, also introduces us to Jesus our savior, if we want to accept Him. This is really condensed, it would take a life time to study the bible, but the fact is, God loved us so much he gave His only begotten Son so we could be saved after the fall of Adam.

I am not the one to answer this as I lean more toward atheism myself...however here's something for you to help in your position. Jesus was a man...a great teacher-ahead of his time...nothing more or less and was NOT the Son of God (if there is one). He didn't die for your sins. Your theology is blastphemous by elevating this guy to the level you have. God (if there is one) had said that I am the one and only. Now...who's paying for the sins of humanity...that's what the Jews have been suffering for over thousands of years as the "chosen people". Think about it and get a clue. In the end God (if there is one) and NOT Jesus will be here and it won't necessairly be a living hell if you've lived as respectfully of self, others, and the environment as you could.

The Old Testament was a lot of things. It does have the prophecy of Jesus. it gave the details of his birth and life so we would know beyond his teachings and for those of us that never met him that he is Defiantly the Son of God. but it also layed down God's Laws and Prophecies of many things to come. it lays the guide lines for how Christians and Jews should live their life as well. if you want to understand it more fully I would suggest reading it. you might change your mind on being Atheist as well. I will pray for you to find salvation.

The Old Testament was a road map to lead us to Christ. Galatians is a good book to read about what the Old Testament was. The Old Testament was to prepare us and teach us of His coming.

That means Jesus father is a loser, please read the following carefully and tell me who won this match!!!

Genesis 32

Jacob Wrestles With God
22 That night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two maidservants and his eleven sons and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. 23 After he had sent them across the stream, he sent over all his possessions. 24 So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak. 25 When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob's hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. 26 Then the man said, "Let me go, for it is daybreak."
But Jacob replied, "I will not let you go unless you bless me."

27 The man asked him, "What is your name?"
"Jacob," he answered.

28 Then the man said, "Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, [e] because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome."

29 Jacob said, "Please tell me your name."
But he replied, "Why do you ask my name?" Then he blessed him there.

30 So Jacob called the place Peniel, [f] saying, "It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared."
