Do you see a difference between Northern and Southern names for Grandparents?
My family is from the south...
My maternal grandparents - Granny and Paw-Paw
My paternal grandparents - Nana and Grandpaw or Bumper - the first grandchild chose that name and so we all called him Bumper.
My husband's mom is from the north and her parents are known by the grandchildren as Gram-ma and Gram-pa.
Hubby's dad is from the south and his parents are known as
Granny and Pa.
I think the most unusual grandparent names I've ever heard(more so than my "Bumper" for my grandfather) are what my cousins kids call my Aunt and Uncle. It started when one cousin was dating a lady (who he later married) with 2 young daughters, and they asked one day while visiting what they could call my Aunt and Uncle. My Aunt came up with Queen and King and the girls would be the princesses. So now all of her grandchildren call them King and Queen.

I love Southern grandparent names.....its one of the benefits of living in the south. Where else can we hear...maw-maw, granny, mee-maw, nanny....lol My mother decided she wanted a modern, younger version of Granny when my kids were born, so they call her Granna. I love it, but nothing takes the place of maw-maw....lol. My great-grandparents were maw-maw and paw-paw, and my grandmothers on both sides are granny. My kids call my husbands mom and dad Grandmama and Papa. Good question....made me smile thinking about my family.

I was born in Memphis, then lived in Alabama but have called Arkansas my home for most of my life. My Grandparents were Memaw and Pepaw, my other grandmother was called "Tick tock" that was a very unusal name my sister came up with it. My parents are Mamaw and Papaw. My husbands family have funny names his grands were Daddy Joe and Momma Ozie. His parents are Daddy Joe and Mom G. I wanted to break that cycle we are now young grandparents my name is Jan so we came up with Janma, its so cute to hear my granddaughter and grandson say..Janma Janma...:). My husband is called Papa I named him that I like that better than if he had gone with his family names and been Pap Ken or Daddy Ken..lol. But the funny thing is my son named Beau is 24 and he says when he gets to be a grand he is going to be PAP BEAU.
