If you are warming up properly then it is most likely a vitamin or mineral deficiency. Do you take a good Multi-vitamin everyday? Do you eat lots of fruits and veggies to get a wide assortment of vitamins and minerals? If not on the above questions, I would recommend trying that. If you are doing them, then you may wish to consult a trainer or your doctor.

You need to stretch for at least 10 minutes before you get on the treadmill. You should stretch your hamstrings, quadriceps, groin, gastrocinemus (calf muscle), Achilles' tendon, hip flexor muslce and any others that you find are tightening. Hold each of them in a stretched position for a count of 30. Despite this you will probably still feel some tightening because the muscles are being exercised.

First of all, you should jog at an easy pace for about 10 or 15 minutes to warm up your muscles-- do not stretch cold muscles, you will only hurt yourself! After you're warmed up, you can stretch. Muscle cramps can be a result of overextertion and/or a lack of potassium. Bananas are a good source, try having one with breakfast. In the meantime, applying a natural ointment like Tiger Balm directly to the sore muscle before your workout can ease the pain. Just be sure not to get it in your eyes!

Do they tighten up while your on the treadmill or when you are done? If its while your on the treadmill i would say that you may want to do some stretching before you get on. If its after you may want to vary your treadmill mill workout. Hope that helps. :)
