We as Americans spend billions each year on sports
while we let millions of children (and adults)
go hungry in the world, some in our own country.

Sports are never a sin. All over the world the government agencies spend many billions for sporting events and for the sports persons. Its also an economic activity. Money is a sin only if it is kept dead. While spending it can't be a sin, if it is spend wisely and for positive purposes.

No sports stars keep their money in lockers, they also keep on speding. So - sports is not a sin(financially)

That is a choice that each indiviual makes. If you say spending money on sports while others go hungry is wrong, then you must carry it through to it's logical conclusion. By your definition, spending money on anything other than a necessity while others go hungry is also sinful. Do you own an IPod? Is your computer a necessity? Do you use air conditioning?

If you read St. Augustine, he describes sports as a sin. I am unsure if we are expected to save everybody, but I don't think God gets upset if we do something for our own entertainment. I have a hard time grasping the concept of condemning spending time and money on sports because we spend so much money on other things. How do we decide what we should and shouldn't spend money on?

Sport by it self is not a sin. But is a great business.
It is OK to play for money, it is a job too.
But like any business it can carry people to do things that are not OK with spirituals and moral principles. When it happens, sport can be converted in a "god". And this "god" will make you sin.
Sports advertisement are very related with sex and alcoholism, this is sin.
But to play in a team or with friends with the right purpose is not sin.

Enjoy sports.

Of course it's not a "sin" but..... yeah sports stars get paid WAY too much.....it really is ridiculous..... and while we're on the subject of people spending too much money on things...I HATE the people that go around town in Suburbans with their Starbucks and cell phones in their hands acting like they are better than everyone else. I was just driving to work and this idiot in front of me was just driving horrible, almost got into 2 accidents....low in behold when I passed her she had a stupid cell phone and coffee in her hands...

Yes, now go blog and watch TV. Go give your money church money. Protest at stadiums today. Your children should look up to priests on there knees, not catching baseballs.
