I don't have step parents. I was just curious. It's a poll/survey.

I have a step-mom and a step-dad and I call them both by their first names. But my dad's 2nd wife I called mom because I was so young and she felt like one. Now that I'm older, it feels inappropriate to use those terms.

I never had step-parents, I just had replacement sets of parents. But I divorced when my kids were very young, and gave custody of them to their father. He remarried right away. It was important to me that my kids have as normal a home life as possible, and I helped to get the kids calling their stepmother Mom by referring to her that way, myself. I became known as Mama. As they aged, they began calling her Mom only at home, and at my house they referred to her by name. By the time that I remarried, my kid were already adults. One of them calls my husband by name because their relationship is one of mature adults; the other calls him Pops because she was happy to have an additional father-figure in her life. She also understood that it would make him very happy.

So I guess it depends on the age of the children, how much they love or respect their step-parent, and by what degree they desire a unified and happy home. It depends heavily on the personal relationship the two have.

Why do they call them Step-Parents?
Is it because everyone who has one step all over them?...metaphorically asking.

i think it depends on the parent the kids and the biological parents feelings what is appropriate in one situation may not be in another. my daughter called my ex daddy and when her real dad came into her life called him Daddy Erik.

my hubby has always called his step dad by his given name. I find that odd since he's been his step dad since my hubby was 2 - but they are both happy with it so who cares?

Yes, you call them by their real names, unless they raised you since you were a baby and they thought you to call them mom or dad.

not really. even though they might not be your biological parents, i prefer you call them mum/dad just like you would call your real parents. remember they are accountable to God of how they bring you up plus they sacrifice alot just for you.
