Go to http://www.dpreview.com/ You can get more info that you need on tons of cameras. Olympus, Minolta, Nikon, Canon all make good digitals. Remember, the quality of the photo has to do with the lens, the size of the wells in the image capturing chip, and the algorithms used. MORE megapixels does not equal better pictures. Just means you can print them larger.

I have a canon I took it to Las Vegas and the results were amazing, It has zoom, steady shot, and a bunch more accessories but it did cost about 350. I would suggest going to a camera only store and checking out everything in your price range, that's what I did and I wound up spending a little more than I wanted but I am glad I did. This camera goes on all my trips and any kind of party that I want to take pictures at. No complaints on speed or the way my pictures turn out.
The battery life is great to. I have only changed the batterys once in a year.

I don't have a specific camera but I would avoid any Sony camera.
They make good cameras BUT MOST of the time their memory sticks (the new DUO) have been reported to not work with other card readers and have even burned some out.
HP printers with card readers advise to NOT insert a Sony DUO card as it can damage or burn out the printer.
My sister fount this our the hard way. It didn't burn out luckily, but now she's stuck with a Sony camera that she cant use to take still pic's with the card just movies with the tape.
This card reader problem also occurs between a Sony camera and a Sony Vaio computer. I have know idea what Sony is doing but personally I would avoid them.
Just my opinion, and observation over the years

I own a Kodak Z730 5 megapixel digital camera. It is among the best in its class. It consists of a large 2.2 inch screen and picture quality is amazing. The best feature of this camera is that it has 4X optical as well as 4X digital zoom. Other 5 megapixel cameras usually have 3X optical and 2X digital zooms that either have the same or a higher price tag than the abovementioned Kodak digital camera. I bought it from Best Buy for $199.99 It gives u the most bang for ur buck. Definitely a best buy

kodak z760 uses a li-ion rechargeable battery. it has a very good combined zoom. it has the ability to take pulse shots of a subject, so you can have three exposures in rapid succession. the battery holds up for a long time, depending on how much you use the flash and live view modes. the cycle time between regular exposures is much less than you have been experiencing. this camera can recharge by means of a camera dock or printer dock. both can download photos directly into your computer. a direct cable download can also be done.
good luck with your new camera.

Fuji finepix f30 is one of the best compact digital cameras out there. It can take about 500 pictures per charge and has a super-fast start-up time (of 1.4 seconds) and a quick shooting interval (of 1.5 seconds). It had the same 3x optical zoom as the Sony dsc t9.
What makes Fuji f30 unique is that it can produce a good quality picture at a high ISO up to 1600 (at ISO 3200 it's just very noisy).
This means it can capture pictures under low-light situations where, as of now, no other compact cameras can (or not as the same quality).

This summer the camera phones are getting 3.2M pixel resolution with auto focus for example the Nokia N73 or SonyEricsson K790. These take great shots, the camera is always with you and they very seldom run out of battery.
I have had 7 generations of digital Cameras and I prefer the Sony ones. The small T-series is nice, but I gave up using one after getting the Nokia N90 last year. This year with 3.2M pixels the choice is even clearer.

Check out any of the Canon Sureshot or Elph line (depending on your budget). I think Sony has lost it's edge with consumer electronics lately, but it's probably an okay Camera. Personally, I would recommend Canon (easy to use & great pics), Nikon, or Olympus over the Sony. See lots o fchoices at www.crutchfield.com.
Good Luck.

Oplympus Sp-310 all the way. This is a really great camera. you can record videos, zoom and every picture has the best quality. It has different modes for you to choose from. You can also edit and enchance your photos on your camera. You don't need a special program. You can easily plug it into your computer, printer, or tv to share or display your photos. its a erally unique camera and I enjoy using it. If you get it, you will too. =]

I have a Canon Powershot A540. I really like it. It's pretty fast. It has many features that you could use to make your pictures look better. Its 6.0 megapixeled. Also 4x optical zoom. You only need 2 AA batteries.
