I discussed this with Dorothy my wife and we thought that it wouldn't be a problem. We are dog lovers ourselves and have had several pooches in our long and happy married life. We once called two of our dogs, git and sod. Great fun calling out, "come here you old git!".
Anyway, to experiment, I went outside and called out to the builders who are busy converting our next door neighbour's barn into a gerbil rearing complex. I shouted out at the top of my voice, "Is one of you a fudrucker?"
To my surprise the all pointed to the new apprentice and said as one, "yep, he's a right little *******" (there are stars here because Dorothy has declined to type the words used).
So, clearly, you must be very careful and elucidate the word, otherwise confusion could arise and you may find a fist full of knuckles heading in your direction.
Hope this helps.
