I have been cooking for over 40 years, and never added sugar to my corn. But, a new neighbr invited us over for a barbecue last week, and her corn on the cob was so delicious, and had a nice, light sweet taste. I asked about it, and she said she adds a tablespoon of sugar to the water, when it is boiling. Anyone else do that?

Ive never tried it. My family usually plants candy corn, sweet corn and it's really really sweet. But I'm going to try this with some of the other types that we buy. Thanks so much for sharing.

Have a great day!

I've done the sugar thing before and also you can milk to the water and it gives the corn a real good sweet taste. Depending one how much corn you are boiling I usually add about 1/2 c. for 3-4 ears.

Hi,

Ive never heard this before. Being that corn has a high sugar content as it is, I dont see why this would help. But give it a try and let us know how it comes out

I always add sugar to the water. I also add a little milk. The milk takes away any toughness. Feel free to email me with any more cooking questions at pinkmusic@sbcglobal.net

I wouldn't add sugar. The corn is just fine as is. Besides, who needs more sugar?!

Always and a little lemon juice also. I put sugar in just about everything, it brings out flavor and helps tenderize.
