I'm Australian and I think this is a terrible, close minded remark. Everyone assumes that because we have a lot of Asians emigrating to Australia we must hate them, which is completely not true. In every country, you will have idiots that are racist, it happen everywhere, but no everyone, not even a hundredth of our population are 'racist'.

I find that you believing that is extremely hurtful and rude.

I'm an aussie and have many Asian friends who don't seem to feel very villified at all but I should point out that I am currently in Darwin, Australia though (this city is closer to most of asia than it is to any other major city in australia) so it has very strong historical, economic and cultural connections with asia.

So if you're really worried about it I'd suggest visiting further north (Qld tends to have a very healthy respect for asia too since they basically live off the tourist dollar). Australia is flooded by so many tourists though that they tend to become a bit of a joke sometimes to locals and sometimes these jokes follow racial stereotypes (all nationalities fall prey to this though). I don't think people intend to offend when this is the case (we have a habit of making jokes about everything and everyone) but our humour doesn't always cross the cultural divide.

People in sydney think that they are superior to everyone who's not from Sydney so try not to feel too offended by people there.

Aussies have a subtle white superiority complex. Most are very nice, but stay away from the young kids who've been drinking at night, they'll make comments. There are very few minorities of any kind in that country, and it's for a reason. Now, it's not the ignorant racism you'll find in America, but it's still there.

They're afraid of Americans, so if you're a minority there, use that to your advantage! That's the benefit of airing American shows on Aussie TV...we're like freaking animals to them!

Seriously, most people are nice, but it's probably not a country a minority would want to live in...

seem at it this kind, it really is recuperating, we've a black president now. yet to inform the reality, human beings do get singled out highly once you're the minority. i'm really particular in case you bypass to an asian u . s . a .'s college then the minority's are transforming into made interesting of there. i comprehend that in Japan, each and every of the white youngsters were getting made interesting of. there continues to be a variety of of ignorant human beings in this international, not merely america. And yet another element of it, is merely status up for your self. My acquaintances will sometimes youngster round and say some thing yet they comprehend now to not push it because i am going to strive against them. believe me, i have been in a variety of of fights. yet in case you want, you may merely retort lower back with some thing racist yet which could variety of contradict what i have been telling you so merely comprehend that you at the instant are not on my own and stick up for your self. reliable success

Heres my take on it... theyre just as racist as any other country. I live in Colorado, USA and there are quite a few racist people over here too (Im part Asian) but in USA they all tend to talk behind your back and act all nice to your face... whereas in my time in Sydney, Australia Ive noticed that they were more straight forward about their racism toward me being brown skinned (shouting obcenities at me and what not)... So either way racism is everywhere but I like the honest racism of the Aussies cause then you know who to beat the living hell out of :) Dont worry about it too much man...

I'm an Aussie and I'm not racist of any creed or colour, but I can't vouch for the rest of the population. Maybe you have heard of tourists being charged for tours of places that are not usually charged for like beaches and parks etc...?? That story did come up in the media, and you can be sure that the tour operators have not gotten away with it.
I am proud to be Australian and discusted at the tourism industry for treating people like that. I welcome any visitor and help if I can.

I'm Asian and lived in Australia for two years. I'd also heard that Australians were racist, and while I never felt it, my sister (who visited me for a month when I lived there) did.

She was going around Sydney with a friend (also Asian), and they stopped at a restaurant to eat. They could only see one table free at the restaurant, and when they tried to sit, they were told to wait. They were standing for about 5 minutes, an Australian couple came in, and the waiter seated them at the only free table immediately. When they asked why the other couple got the table, they were told (direct quote): "We generally prefer serving our own kind here."

I think Australia is like any other country in the world where you have immigrants and migrants.
On a whole Australia is a very tolerant country but you do get the ignorant few whose actions and behavior taint the whole country.
Australia on a whole realizes that its foundations are built on people coming to Australia for a better life. And by the percentage of migrants who have settled and built their life here I say that most of them find it a tolerant country too.
Don't let the actions of a few ignoramuses leave you with a bad impression of the rest of us!
