That would be a Manual transmission.
The reasoning behind it is because that it doesn't require any extra and it can exceed a 1:1 ratio.
An automatic requires a internal fluid pump, and a fluidic torque converter, and that steals away from the efficiency, and unless it is an expensive car, it can not exceed a 1:1 ratio,
and a constant velocity automatic transmission can not exceed the 1:1 ratio

or were you talking about another transmission??

Well, if your talking about communication equipment, I'd have to say lasers. thay can carry codes in different frequencies, colors, flash, and other things, also the number of lasers being used to tranmit a message.
