i have a friend whose step daughters are coming over with tooth aches and they haven't been to the dentist in years. they are only in middle school and their teeth are rotting out! regardless of how many times my friend and her husband ask the mother to take them or to give then the insurance cards so they can take the girls she refuses. the husband does not yet have insureance and to take them without would be thousands of dollars that they don't have. should i report the mother?

maybe you should phone and ask advise, first, leave no names / numbers, sometimes they will be able to tell you if it is grounds for socail service interaction or not, where to get help.

If the only sign of neglect is not taking the children to a dentist, then no, dont report her. They may not even investigate her thoroughly for that.

Start off by insisting the girls go to a dental clinic. Im sure there is one nearby, they are in every city. The father & step mother (your friend) can take the girls to a dentist. If they know the girls dont receive any dental care but dont take any steps to get them care, they are as neglectful as the mother.

I would have a talk with my friend and tell her that she needs to take care of her children. I know that it cost alot of money to go to the dentist. I myself do not have dental Insurance, but my oldest daughter was having problems with her teeth. And I had no choice but to take her. I Talked to the dentist and we did one tooth at a time which was still costly. But her teeth was getting fixed. Just talk to her first, if she is a friend then she should understand that you are only caring for her kids.

That is the bad thing with dentist they cost so so much money and why? I can not figure that out. That is a question in it's self.

There are 2 sides to every story-

his / hers and the truth. The dad is just as responsible for those kids as the mother is. If they haven't seen a dentist in years, and the dad and step-mom are complaing they should have taken them. A cleaning and check up is not that much.

There are state medical cards, maybe the dad could check into that.
Please don't judge the mother without ALL the facts!!

I agree with schmuse, call social services anonymously to see what can be done. it's pretty traumatic for middle school aged kids to be taken out of their homes and put in a strange and unfamiliar environment, nevertheless; they need help asap.

and LIZ, get a grip! shame on you for thinking that the health of a child is less important than money and co-pays! There are assistance programs for children out there so there is no reason why ANY child should have to go without health care.

Why hasn't the husband taken care of it? It is just as much his responsibility as the girl's mother. If you report one, you have to report the other. There are resources available in most states for children's dental care. Why doesn't he check into it and just get it done? Obviously, the mother isn't a caring person, but that doesn't stop him from taking care of business.

I'm sorry but when did this become your problem? It is none of your bees wax. Want to know the truth? Their father is just as responsible for these children as their mother is, no more no less. I don't care how much it cost, let him be a man and get insurance. Isn't it wonderful how you and your friend can sit back and judge this woman and he is on this pedestal. Makes no sense...

did you ever think she might not be able to afford the co-pay? yeah theres a co-pay for every freaking tooth they fix can reach up in the hundreds and if he doesn't have the insurance for them yet how is she going to help pay for it, or is she supposed to pay for it all? duh theres 2 sides to a story and having someones nose in their business doesn't help with the payments nor the situation. hate nosey *** people especially when they dont know nothing but want to call social services the first minute something makes their panties wad up in their ***. so stop screwing the daddy and ask him the same question 2 why haven't you got them rotten kids teeth looked at. takes 2 to tango and 1 crazy *** ***** to tell

To whom would you report this?? Do these kids go to school?? If they do and go to the school nurse enough that will be for her to decide. Don't get involved. You don't know all the information. If you see or hear of physical or mental abuse of course report it. This one sounds like the father should be getting involved not you.
