Spock did on many episodes of Star Trek.However, since the show was based off of the works of Gene Roddenberry,my guess is he had something to do with it.

it was Kirk, not Spock, and it wasn't in the wrath of khan but in one of the next two, either search for spock or voyage home.
in wrath of khan, spock said the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. and he sacrificed his life to repair the warp drive and get the ship out of danger.
in the sequels, after kirk and the others have successfully rescued and restored spock's soul to his body, spock asks them why, and kirk answers that sometimes the needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many.
