I am looking for ideas on what to use to store dry kitchen items like flour, sugar, and baking soda ect... Right now I keep these things in zip lock bags in the refridgerator, but I'm wanting to move them into a cabinet in the kitchen.

Does anyone have any good ideas? What do most people do with theirs?

Is tupperwear a good option? I want them all to match and look neat.

Thanks!! :)

Tupperware is a great option or something from Bed, Bath or Beyond, you know a specialty store. Shoot even Wal-mart has some great things. You just want to make sure they can be sealed....air tight. Then you can store anything you want in them. I prefer the see through hard plastic with the metal clasp that snaps down. That way I can see how much is in the cannister. I also label my canisters, cause flour, powdered sugar and corn starch all look the same in the can! It makes for interesting gravy if you get the powdered sugar instead of the flour!

Flour
sugar
brown sugar
powdered sugar
popcorn
corn starch
salt
ect...

I think tupperwear is the best way to go because it has an air tight lid. I'd go and get four or five matching ones, tall enough to put an entire bag of flour, sugar, etc. in it and then keep them on the kitchen counter, pantry, or cupboard, whichever is more convenient for you. It also will keep any creepy crawly critters out of them. :)

I actually use old or antique jars that I get at tag sales or antique stores. They always look pretty, can be sealed, come in different sizes, and match the antique/Victorian look of my home. They are pretty enough that I set them on an open shelf, mixed with other antique decorative kitchen bowls and utensils. I also label them on the bottom, so as not to detract from the designs or patterns.

Go to a cook store or somewhere where they sell glass or porclen canisters. I keep my sugar in a grey glass bowl, my flour and extra sugar are in tall plastic containers. Some people have glass containers with a unique design on them. Its good to ave ones with tops. If you're looking for plastic ones try the container store

If you live in a place that is hot and humid in the summer like I do keep the flour in an airtight container in the freezer. Not only helps prevent little critters from getting in there but helps keep it fresh longer.

I store all my dry ingredients such as sugar, flour, baking powder, brown sugar, baking soda, pancake mix, confectioners sugar etc. in Tupperware and have for years. I tag each container to identify whats inside. They stack neatly and are easy to handle and clean. I never have bugs in anything.

There is a vacuum sealer made for home use that can pack these things in canisters. The sealer is called the FoodSaver, and it is relativley cheap. I found this product through an informercial, but I think you can get them at Sam's Club, and I think they have a website.
