Screw federal price control. Let the gas prices sky rocket. Let them get up to $6-$8 a gallon.
Sure it will be tough on a lot of people, but we'll have an alternative fuel that is usuable in our current cars (maybe a $300 install) in less than a year.

Because our government is so wrapped up in oil prices and saving their own butt's that they won't even support the making and use of Ethonol and other nature based fuels that can be re-made, cost less money, and pollute the air way less than conventional fuels. They don't want the general public to know that Ethonol is already being made and many car manufacturers are already making plans to build lines of cars that run off this new cleaner, cheaper fuel. Basically our governement is a bunch of right tight a** jerks who want to get their hands on more money, and can do that by keeping the general public in the dark about their rights and what's available to them.
I don't know about you, but I can't walk the several miles I need to be to go to my son's daycare, or to work, especially not right now when it is about 100 degrees outside and I am pregnant.

I find it very hard to believe that we have not developed alternative fuels or electric power to the point of needed efficiency and cost by now. The oil companies must have their claws in deep! However, their days are ultimately numbered. But how long will it be? In the mean time we are being gouged on fuel prices for transportation.
There needs to be greater pressure for alternatives to oil.
And, yes, out of necessity we just keep driving.

They SHOULD lower prices simply because big oil is big business and they are 'Price Gouging' which is illegal in the USA. However, the government SHOULD force this 'Big Business' to pump billions of dollars into alternative forms of energy as well as mass transit. There is no need to go back to the horse and buggie but there is a need to move forward. Unfortunately, the Bush Administration is all about padding their pockets and I see little action as long as they are in power...

You're right....as long as they know we will keep spending, they will keep prices high, but soon they are going to put our country into poverty with all of the high prices if they don't raise minimum wage as well. If they keep putting hybrid cars on the market and people start buying more of them, the environment will be healthier and we will use less gas....

Does anyone else get the feeling that this whole Iran nonsense is just to get oil prices up so the oil companies can continue to achieve record profits?
