Sometimes I ask myself this question. I mean, think of it - You get five minutes earlier to to your destination. What did you do with that 5 minutes ( that is if you were not in a hurry to get there )

considering road accidents

Just a habit I guess. I think it is funny when I see someone hauling a$$ on the interestate and then I see them again in town, stopped at a red light. They blew past me like I was standing still (I usually drive around 70-75) but got no further than I did ultimately.

People are driving faster because the speed limits are going up nationwide. A variety or combination of the few following examples like not paying attention, alcohol, and cell phones are now playing a big factor in keeping peoples attention from what they are doing. Causing them not only to speed but also accidents.
There are plenty of times I take the time out to look at scenery when driving. Rubbernecking at people getting tickets or.....accidents..

I drive faster to get where I am going since I do not enjoy driving but it is a necessity. I only however drive 5-10 mph over the speed limit and rarely around residential areas.

I think a lot of it has to do with competitiveness. I think most of us have a competitive nature to us on some level. Personally, I don't feel any lesser of a man if someone passes me on the road, but I think a majority of people feel like they have something to prove when this happens by returning the favor. I feel sorry for people like that too, because it adds a lot of unneeded stress to their lives.

Lack of common sense, the need for speed to get nowhere fast but a expensive ticket and block traffic racing from one light to another, they don't seem to get "that the lights are timed, so if you speed up, you're just going to get to a red light faster!.

Because all americans are in a hurry. They get the mindset that they have to be somewhere, and everybody else is only there to slow them down.

I ask myself the same question-I think it's because of the lifestyle of this country (USA) especially in the big cities-it's fast paced, so we're stressed out with things on our minds all the time-trying to squeeze in every second we're awake with things to do.

I do that all the time. I just think to myself...you dummy. I'll get there 5 seconds earlier and wasted gas going faster than I needed to.....

If your car can do 100, then you'll try to drive at that speed. That's a fact of life.
