An athiest which could be attempting to stay away from isn't a real athiest, its merely someone who were given burned by using a god depending faith. a real athiest has never given any concept to "saving" the non secular from themselves. anybody is prevalent with excellent from incorrect. human beings opt for to be a competent people or undesirable. both your heart loves or it would not. You dont choose a god or a doctrine lean on. If there's a god then it will be not available for our little animal mind to understand now to not teach having guy dictate the gods will to human beings.

Of course most atheists aren't going to admit that that's EXACTLY what they're doing, but yeah, of course that's why. Well, that and to make fun of people. I've seen some really insightful sincere questions from atheists who are truly trying to understand why people believe differently from them...But I can count those on one hand. The more time I spend on Answers, the more frustrated I become with people who are atheists. They come across as incredibly snotty and narrow-minded. If anything, they've successfully made me aware of how so many Christians come off to the rest of the world. I don't think that was their intention though, which makes them JUST as "pathetic" as Christians (I don't really think Christians are pathetic, I'm just sayin'...).

yes, that would be hypocritical if atheists wrang your door bell and handed out science books, then complained about the Christians who do that. But, this forum doesn't count towards that conclusion, we answer questions for people who appear to be looking for truth, not just a pedestal to preach at us from. We would be neglectful to let those who don't understand why God isn't helping them, or ending world hunger go on feeling confused, when we can share our personal experience with the same problems and our conclusions, which might give them a greater sense on enlightenment. I've seen hate-mongers on both sides of this debate in here, but am not one of them.

I think I answered a question sort of like this a couple of weeks ago. I think atheists are jealous because they don't have a category labeled "atheism" so they have to hang out here. However, I would point out that this category is the one that gets the most attention, the most conflict, and the most flare-ups of feelings. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that time is running out for the history of the world, and eventually there will be no neutral ground anymore. Thanks for asking the question.

You assume atheists care what you believe.
If a person wants to flounder about in the darkness of ignorance & superstition, that's his choice.
Atheism, the only logical choice.

it's a form of checks and balances my friend. yin and yang. however, you could be right in terms of us trying to convert you. after all, it is religion that has gotten us in a heap of trouble these past few years. case in point, voting bush into office, palestine versus isreal, sunni versus shiite. we, as atheists, have had enough of the religious prevalence in the public domain. it has begun to impose on our rights to freedom from (organized) religion and have begun to act out against it. there's a fine line of freedom to and freedom from religion. it's unfortunate that many can't respect it or consciously choose not to.
