In the states we call this a root canal. It is a common procedure that requires a licensed dentist to use accepted procedures to protect the affected area with a temporary cap
It is not up to the patient to do anything but have a dentist repair the area. The dentist should have instucted the person as to how to take care of the teeth. A silver filling is now not as accepted a procedure because it can cause metal leeching into the blood eventually. I question the procedure - I have had two such procedures done myself.

The purpose of the tempory cap is to avoid contaimantion to the area certainly but to see if all the bacteria has been removed or killed before placing a permenant cap on the area. Normal brushing should should be follow and flossiing as well.

Your friend should have a crown (cap) placed as soon as possible. What she had done is known as a root canal, where the nerve and blood supply is removed from the tooth. Once this happens, the tooth is esentially dead, and will become more brittle over time. The crown that is recommended, will strengthen the tooth, and prevent future problems.

As for your question. The exact way of maintaining good oral hygene varies from place to place. (meaning you may get several different instructions on how to brush) I prefer the modified bass technique. This is when you brush your teeth with the bristles at a 45 degree angle toward the gumline, thereby cleaning the gumline and stimulating the gums at the same time. You should brush and floss your teeth at least once a day, but preferably two to three times a day.

Unfortunately, even perferct oral hygene won't prevent all problems. Therefore, one other VERY important thing to do is maintain regular visits with your dentist too.

I hope this helps.

The cap will protect the tooth from further harm - it should be put in. Brush at least twice a day for 3 minutes, floss and use listerine immediately after brushing. Your teeth should feel smooth, like after a dental cleaning after each brushing. When you brush use circular motions to clean each tooth and outer gumline. Stay away from soda. If you do drink soda, cola, pop drink it quickly and brush your teeth or chew gum to promote saliva to weaken the acidic effects.

You friend should redo the filling and put a cap over it.
*******
Brush your teeth right after you eat or drink (except water and soda)
Brush your teeth about 3 times a day.(please don't eat every 20 minutes)

The cap is a must or it will rot.
I've heard several different ways to brush
I usually do for approximately 5 minutes in a circular motion and don't forget to brush the tongue

please advise your friend to put the cap , coz even i left it &believe me i'd a narrow escape from losing my tooth. Brush your teeth immediately after dinner or after eating chocolates & start flossing it's really good. Use a Oral-B toothpaste
