what's the purpose?
1. Dating - basically this gives you some experience and prepares you for the future. Here you're allowed to explore your options, understand yourself and especially, the opposite sex. This is either the training stage or the groundwork for marriage. This is also the time to enjoy your life and sex.
2. Marriage - is for people who firmly believe and want to spend their life with one partner of their choice. These are for people who want their commitment up to the next level. People that get married may be tired of the ups and downs of dating, and finding one guy or girl to stay with. Basically, you're retiring from dating and having the easy life. I personally would not want to date forever and be this bachelor. That's just too tiring in my opinion.
What's the purpose of being in a relationship?
Companion - you'd want someone to share your feelings to and laugh and cry with.
Enjoyment - you can't do a lot of things alone. It's much better to go out to a place with your gf/bf than your friends alone. Why? There's a barrier between guys and girls that you cannot simply break. Guys will not show their true feelings and girls will not get that close to guys. This is because they feel too vulnerable to do so.
Being in a relationship breaks that barrier, and guys and girls experience a whole new level of communication. Suddenly they can think of how funny this guy is, or how hyper this girl is. They can feel safe going out of their cave.
Pride - you can be proud of how beautiful or how cute your girl/guy is
Family - Eventually most people would wanna have a family of their own
Lust - Everyone in a relationship eventually make out and have sex at one point. Most people enjoy this.
There are several other reasons why, but the most important of all is:
Guys and Girls were made to be together. You wouldn't exist today had not be of that union.

A man and a woman should still date even after they get married. So I guess I qualify to be here. Plus, who has the most experience with your kind of questions? People who have dated long enough to be in a seriously committed relationship or people who are married. If one of us was to give you or one of your friends some perfect advice, would you be grateful?
Hope you are happy and smiling everyday. Take care.

I have been happily married for 4 years. No regret at all. Married life is much better than single / dating life in my opinion.

Single since April and content. I'm not here to pickup that's for sure and I probably will ask a girl out from college quite soon.
Why? Are you here for something more than answer and questions??
