Life span is generally 14-16, but I have heard of a couple that have lived until they were 20 (don't know if I believe it). We had to put our first springer down when she was 14 ... she had arthritis and was sleeping so soundly that she urinated on herself. Sad :(

With all the wonderful medical treatments now, dogs are living longer, healthier lives.

I really feel for you. If you decide to put your dog down, be sure to be there with her/him. If your dog is not in pain, you could just let her/him live out the rest of its life without the surgery. I know exactly what you are going through.

Honestly no, you could get a couple of years out a very healthy one, but they usually last about 14 years. This does not mean the one at 13 years and ten months has only 2 months to live though! What a sad answer.

i have a springer who is almost 11 years old but you'd think he was only 2!!. everything depends on his genetic make up, his lifestyle and numerous other factors. all you can do is love him, and cherish everyday.none of us knows how many tomorrows we have left., so live life to the max! i hope your dog has a long and healthy , happy life . good luck

if the pet has had a healthy past then, yes they do. My cocker spaniel is 11 years old, and she is healthy and the vet says she will around much much longer as long as we keep her active and feed her a good pet food.
